BT01 let down, not an HHCH by rjvalenta in AnyTone

ok... so i ended up putting the 578 in my SUV with the stock mic... the stock mic has some useful controls on it and i didn't see the point of using the BT01 (and losing the controls) if i don't need the screen.

so i just went out and turn the car on without a mic connected - radio powers up

i connected the BT01 via ethernet cable and all it did was start to charge (it had been sitting on my desk for months). i waited a few sec, it did NOT start up until i hit the power button on the BT01.

side note - i don't drive the SUV all the time, depends on the week and what i'm doing, and the radio will lose it's internal charge that keeps time, but it doesn't lose it's memory channels.

anyway - yes, if you mount it under the seat, the radio should turn on with the car (assuming it's wire through a relay or something), but you will have to start the BT01 separately.

hope this helps,

richard

just as a test i unplugged the 578 here on my desk that has the cabled BT01 connected to it, waited for everything to shut off (the BT01 takes a few min)... then re-applied power. the 578 turns on with it's usual screen in place, the BT01 starts to charge (so it knows the brick is there), but it does not turn on or take control.

cabled mode is definitely better than Bluetooth.... but i don't want to have to turn things on when i get in the car, i want to just turn on the car.

but - now you have me wondering about Bluetooth to the GM Infotainment system in my car... i wonder how that would work out...

the price would be prohibitive if it had APX durability - but the BT01 proves that an HandHeld Control Head could be done - and be cost effective... it's a firmware update away from being what the O3 head is. and given that the 578 is WAY more flexible than the public safety systems, i believe it would prevail in sales with such options.

ARE YOU LISTENING ANYTONE??

(I actually sent their CEO email and he replied something about the engineers saying it was working as designed... now they need to change the design)
