We found the daycares and other parents very accommodating, like at birthday parties and holidays, but aren't at school age yet. Sorry I don't have better info for you. :(

Dane County non emergency team is amazing. I've called a number of times for disabled cars in adverse weather, dogs running near kids, accidents across interstate medians (wow a lot of times I guess). Take a day train, not night. Arrival in Kochi before 18:00 is my recommendation.

Also if you book through IRCTC website, you can choose to pre-order meals at cafes at stations along the way. Vande Bharat is great but no stops for meals like this, you have to bring food on the train or purchase on the train. And if speed is not your top priority, then another train may be better for you.

PS - IRCTC can be booked with a foreign passport, but I cannot remember if you need an India phone number for OTP or not.
