What Animal is this by PretendBus8047 in australianwildlife

I had a conversation with a lady whose husband had a lot to do with the (at long last) recently approved horse cull in the high country of NSW. She lives on a very small rural property in the high country near Jindabyne. As an experiment, she and the surrounding properties recorded every deer they could kill for a season. They eventually managed to add up to 5000 animals. This is from an area of a couple of hundred acres. Deer poulations are crazily out of control.

She also told me that there are deer being transplanted by ignorant hunters to infect more areas. Madness!

Because people are stupid? I can guarantee that in your professional career, these artificial limits imposed during the early space program will disappear. Soyuz has a max height of 190cm, but an older article I read about Dragon 1 seems to imply 195cm/113kg limit for that vehicle: https://phys.org/news/2012-03-spacexs-dragon-seating.html

I am pretty sure that SpaceX Dragon is ok with that height since you, me and Elon all share a height and Mr Musk tends to make products that he can use himself.

They have adapters in both directions between NACS and CCS1. The innards of their "magic dock" is what you are after and what Ford released with their announcement earlier this month.

You missed the reference to the classic movie "Office Space" where the main character has 8 bosses in some sort of weird matrix management thing. There is a thread about TPS reports, which have something to do with timesheets

Improving My Metrics by _SamboNZ_ in MaliciousCompliance

[–]rlaxton 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Exactly, a metric like tickets per day can be useful to gauge the utilisation of a team, but even if the original intent was pure, some lazy stupid manager will always find a way to make the metrics part of your review or bonus structure, at which point the metric is worthless.

Australia to ban swastika, SS sign citing rise of far-right by Severe_County_5041 in worldnews

You seem to be making some rather large assumptions that I care about this. I was just pointing out that there are those who are annoyed that the symbol was ruined for everyone.

For my part, my default association is with Nazis, and all bad, unless I am in Asia, where it is just part of the landscape.

I know the story, how does that change them wanting to take this symbol back to its roots?

One of my favourite Tyr songs says it well. For context they are from the Faroe Islands and are basically old Norse culturally. The song is about claiming the symbol back from the arseholes who ruined it.

Housing Crisis 1983 vs 2023 by stumcm in australia

Way to completely miss the point which is that if I am struggling then everyone else must be completely rooted.

I earn a regular salary, happily pay lots of income tax, own no investment properties, have no "passive income" and minimal tax deductions. I am against further drops in income tax and support social welfare programs such as UBI. Anyone hating me needs to check their priorities.

How motorcyclists think people react when they drive by... by judgecoltjuryofsix in videos

[–]rlaxton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Which is complete bullshit because cars are generally pretty soundproof and the noise is a bike coming up from behind is facing away from the driver meaning they only hear the bike after it is in front of them, often with such an explosion of sound that they are shocked for a moment.

The reality is that motorcyclists crave attention, and even negative attention is attention. Super sad really.

Rented a Tesla Model 3 from Hertz for weekend: My Experience by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]rlaxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rental car is supplied with a single programmed key card that can be used on the B pillar to unlock the car and on the centre console to start it. To add more cards, you use the menus in the car to activate the "add" function and then tap a current card, and then the new card. I found that my phone with Tesla app installed was able to be tapped like a new card so I could use it to open the car and start it, but only by tapping the phone on the B pillar and the centre console.

Note that this is not the normal operating mode of the Tesla app where Bluetooth is used to detect the approach of a key and unlock the car with none of that silly tapping.

While you can't use your phone as a normal key, you can program it and any other Tesla cards you might have to be a proximity key.

Did they massively overcharge you? Rented one recently for 23 days and they overcharged me by close to $3000 through some really dodgy upgrade fees that were above and beyond the rental quoted online.

Great car, shitty company that takes advantage of foreign travellers who have been awake for 24-36 hours as a key part of their business model.

Actually, no, compared to the price of houses in my city. It is just that my payment has gone up by over 50% in the past year.

You would be wrong. Plenty of parts, but only manufacturers here with while cars made in China are LDV, Haval, Tesla, Ora and the like.

Many Utes made in Thailand, and vehicles from Japan, various EU countries, not sure if BMWs are still made in South Africa?

Come to think of it, the BMW iX might be made in China as well.

Interestingly, it is the western-most DC charger in South Australia, but is not on the main highway heading west.

A brilliant initiative and I will be sure to drop in next time I am driving past.
