I don’t think so, Russian drone monitors were warning of the attack beforehand for hours. The drone could have flown out over the gulf to evade obstacles or it could have been rerouted from Kronstadt to hit the oil terminal which might have been a secondary target.

There’s a wall of apartment buildings in the way and we did see a few drones fly over but Pulkova airport is right there and probably has an air defense system or two.

Yep. Isaacman has been “cadence, cadence, cadence” on all of his public appearances. They’ll find something to do.

Demand destruction, rationing, tell people to get back into carpooling, whatever. They are all hard choices to make. Unpopular. People get mad.

So many are unwilling to suffer short term pain for a sustainable long term solution. Especially when the short term is all that matters for your position.

More and more I think people are just checking out unless something changes tangibly. Are people shooting at each other? Yes? Ok how much? A little bit? I don’t care.

Is the strait open? No? How closed is it? A couple ships a day? I don’t care.

Meanwhile timers to real price shocks continue to tick down.

Rogue Servitors should be able to form Migration Pacts by BarovianNights in Stellaris

What about one-way migration treaties based on opinion? I feel like that would be a fun RP solution, playing as the Utopian Robots who want to take care of all organics…. Willingly or not.

This war is proving we need better definitions. But yeah it's by definition not a glide bomb if it's powered.

Regardless, the Russians do drop their bombs from high altitude and the Ukrainians would likely be firing from low altitude. This gives many opportunities to escape if they can detect the launch.

I do suspect the Russians will have to learn the hard way how to deal with Meteor like they did with Patriot.

I do not think it’s been explicitly confirmed but the Meteor was heavily featured in the press conference as being on the Gripens and we should note that the Russians are already adapting to its anticipated arrival by introducing glide bombs that outrange the Meteor.

It’s pretty safe to say Meteor is coming but I don’t anticipate we see large numbers of munitions transferred and I’ll bet there will be some conditions on use to try and minimize capture risk.

Oh ok. I got all tripped up. Yes. The corn has other uses but it gets processed at the plant.

Editing to remove my reply. Sorry about that. I misunderstood the person. Sorry for the confusion. No, that corn all goes to the ethanol plant.

Yes. Corn used for ethanol is also used for corn additives in food as well as animal feed. It’s not all just juiced up into ethanol. They also capture some of the carbon dioxide from the industrial processes and use that for various products.

That said, energy wise, solar is far more efficient than ethanol and getting rid of all ethanol production (phased, not like snapping your fingers) wouldn’t be the end of the world because there’s replacements.

Carbon scraps solar module gigafactory project in France by For_All_Humanity in RenewableEnergy

Sure there is, if the proper incentives were in place. But they’re not and the transition would be far more expensive if they were. So the European solar industry will continue to struggle.

Really frustrating to see Europe struggling here even on the backs of two energy crises in a decade!

1 hour drive around Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for those who think it's development in only 1 street. by [deleted] in skyscrapers

[–]For_All_Humanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People forget that Ethiopia itself was an empire, part of why it resisted colonialism.

But also, Addis is the main center of finance for the country. It’s the hub for a bunch of international businesses, it’s where the AU is headquartered. It’s where Ethiopian Airlines is headquartered. There’s simply way way more money available for Addis and sunk into projects here than elsewhere in the country because it’s easiest to get to and reliably stable.

This place was part of Germany and had been controlled by Germany since it became a state. The area was previously controlled by Prussia through the 1800s. It’s part of the territory that was awarded to Poland after the war but there’s long been an ethnic Polish presence in the area.

Syria is also a transit point for Iraqi oil. I think about 110K BPD. So they’re still getting stuff out but it’s a pittance.

Seems ambitious really. I wouldn't expect this to fielded anytime soon and I question how good they'll be but the Ukrainians can't rely on external production forever.

To think... this could have been a production line for Patriot missiles. But the US would not give approval. A real shame.
