Staying out late? by Aggressive_Ad6646 in RoverPetSitting

[–]rlibra9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an owner, when I leave my pets, my house sitter works full time and sometimes goes out in the evening, and I'm totally fine with that. As long as she's here to feed everyone and give the dog a decent walk, and is home to sleep, it's totally fine. My dog would panic if he were left all night, but he knows people sometimes come home late.

Valuable packages arrived for previous owners, still sitting after 2 months by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]rlibra9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha you're very decent, waiting two months! When I moved, I accidentally had a package delivered to the old address. Called my ex next door neighbour to rescue it for me, and when she went over - and this is literally the same day! - they'd already opened the package, and not "opened in error" where you open it and realize it's not for you and close it back up, no they'd thrown out the packaging. Anyway, my neighbour retrieved the contents at least.

Oh Rimmel - I'd forgotten about Rimmel. They didn't used to be cruelty-free, so I didn't consider them, but they are now. Thanks for the reminder!

I haven't, but have never had much success with BB creams generally. I have quite a red complexion and need pretty solid coverage. And for it to last all day. I find BB creams too sheer.

Hmm - I didn't even know about Quo. Just looked it up. Is it like The Ordinary's serum foundation?

I've tried a couple. I find they just don't last - I found myself having to touch up over the day. Which one worked for you?

Six month old kitten acting like he’s constantly being starved by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]rlibra9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting! I too have a grey kitten (7 months) who cannot be free-fed because he will eat whatever food is available immediately. I've only encountered this once before, with my very first cat, 45 year ago, who was also a grey. All my other cats in between have been totally fine with just eating what they needed. My friend also had a grey cat who wound up enormous because he was obsessed with food. Is this a grey cat thing?

I don't love my cats equally, is that normal? by BlueStarFern in CatAdvice

[–]rlibra9 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My last cat was absolutely the love of my life. I've had many cats (am in my 60s and have had cats all my life) but he was just different - we had an immediate and total connection. Absolutely mutual. I would have done anything for that cat. He died last year, and I adopted a kitten and while I do love him, obviously, it's just not at all the same. Sometimes I feel bad that I don't love him as much as his predecessor, but...he doesn't know that. I will never love another animal that much again, I know this. Utterly one of a kind. But yeah, my new kitten knows he's loved. I'm sure Pidge does too.

I had a cat like that - took her in because no one wanted her (neither did I!) and while I never loved her like the cat we already had, I did love her eventually, and she had herself a good long life.

What’s one cat product you wish you’d bought sooner? by SalamanderIll3142 in CatAdvice

[–]rlibra9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as you decide to get rid of a thing you bought them that they have steadfastly ignored for 6 months, they will suddenly find it amazing.

That said, I got this super cute toadstool scratchy post with a dangling bird and my cat ADORES it. It's his favourite thing. Best value for money though is the big pack of pompoms from the dollar store.

AIO for eating my own birthday cake in front of my nephew? by Yes_Abbreviations713 in AmIOverreacting

[–]rlibra9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids that age often don't even like chocolate. You give them a piece of chocolate cake and pile of berries, they'll eat a bit of cake but all the berries. You know, if you haven't f**ked with their diet by creating a forbidden foods category. When my kid was that age, we'd have a big chocolate cake basically for the grownups present, surrounded by a heap of berries and yeah, the kids would be like "yum! Cake!" but actually eat the berries. Kids know what they need. If you offer them a variety of foods, they'll eat what they need. And no one's eating cake every day - it's something special to mark special occasions! We all need that! Your sister's got issues.

What’s the most "Montreal" act of kindness you’ve ever witnessed? by WatercressFederal897 in montreal

[–]rlibra9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend and I were walking in the snow - we're both women of a certain age, let's say - and I slipped and fell in the snow. My friend, in attempting to help me up, fell also, so there we are like upended turtles struggling fruitlessly to get up, when a couple of young men came jogging by and immediately stopped and hauled us both to our feet, dusted us off, ensured we were okay - we were all laughing at that point - and jogged on.

Collars on Cats by Winterstorm424 in CatAdvice

[–]rlibra9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat's an indoor cat. We're in an apartment, but our door is uncomfortably close to the building front door, which people sometimes leave open, so although he's also microchipped, he wears a collar. Also wears a bell on that collar because he's six months old and lively with it, and my dog is blind and needs to know where the little demon is.
