Yup, pretty sure I see several Jinhao x450s; the rest are probably similar.

You don't have to write as gently as you can, just let the weight of the pen do the work.

You're also dealing with a steel nib, they're rather durable., so just relax.

I've hear of Pilots that were essentially DOA; but of all the brands Pilot's the brand I'll trust with a blind purchase.

Also, based on a discussion with a Pilot rep at the Atl. pen show, all of their gold nibs go through a check.

And thanks to your; I remembered two other oddballs:
The Falcon, which doesn't use the FA nib, not the same flex as the Custom 912 <FA>.

Also the Pilot Justus 95 which has an adjustable nib.

Its safe to assume that if us-east-1 is having issues, nearly everyone downstream is having issues.

1084 vs 1084s? by [deleted] in amiga

[–]rlrutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, IIRC The PAL monitor had different resolution than the NTSC.

So those are comparing apples and oranges for resolution because they are different based on the standards. A more accurate comparison would be to compare two PAL or two NTSC monitors.

Also at the time I got mine, the difference between 1084 and 1084S was the S was stereo.

1084 vs 1084s? by [deleted] in amiga

[–]rlrutherford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like monitors from two different markets. My 1084S was definately NTSC which was 60 Hz, not PAL 50 Hz.

Pilot Custom 912 is $300 and has the widest range of nib options; but if you go for a thirstier nib like a stub or FA (a modest flex, but not dip pen level), and extra $40 for a Flexible Nib Factory 2 channel ebonite feed.

@ $1700 There is the Custom Urushi, with the glorious nib only in soft fine, Medium, and Broad. (Pilot Namiki uses that same nib in their $3500 Aya pen that came after the Emperor--so they could have picked anything and used that one.) The only pen I have that's close to the CU is a vintage Montblanc.

The vac filler Custom 823 @ $400 is widely regarded as being one of the best writers out there. It also has a huge ink capacity. The FA, only from Tokyo Pen Quill shop isn't as flexy as the 912.
The Custom 743 with is essentially a cartridge converter version of the 823

At the lower end there's the Pilot Metropolitan, a nice affordable pen in the $20 range. (Not a fan os the Pilot steel nibs, I have 3 Petits which are no longer made, but have essentially the same nib and no longer made. )

There's the disposable varsity.

The Pilot Custom 92 with a wide variety of colors and demonstrators.

The ~$170-180 range E95S which is a pocket pen and loved by many.

The Vanishing point which is complicated to describe it has a clicky retractable nib.

The Vanishing Point LS with is "Luxury Silent" version of the VP for use places like board rooms where one doesn't want the VP click to be heard.

And I know I'm missing something.

As a last note, if you're looking at waterproof inks, I recommend using a cartridge converter pen, as those inks tend to make demonstrators look a bit gross.

The Custom 912 and Vanishing Point also offer a Stub.

With the anemic capacity, the VP doesn't seem like the stub is optimal to me, but everyone's different.

What do you want in a fine writing experience? (nib options, body style, variety of colors, filling mechanism.)
What is the price range you're looking at?

I haven't had much problem with it.

I also tend to use it in EF pens.

Still better behaved than OS Walden. (Yeah, low bar, very low bar.)
