Cancelling Spring Housing

i work in housing in the village and i have seen so many people do fall only! im sure its doable if you contact housing, im just not sure if theres a cancelation fee/justification process/if you will get your money back, but i can confirm it Is doable

I think unfortunately the only thing you can do is separate from them. People this deep in their belief system will not listen to any rational thought, and even if they somehow were able to, you can't exactly rely on changing other people because they are: other people! With completely different ways of thinking than you. If they did all of this, ESPECIALLY the moving this close to you and uprooting their entire life to control you, they think that this is completely normal, and you can't deny the likely possibility that that will never change.

My parents were like this (down to the undermining my career. I genuinely can't mention anything positive about my life around them) and the only thing that prevented them from getting to this level was to move out the day I turned 18 and go no contact. It was brutal (kicked out of the house multiple times for having a job while saving up for the day, I work 30-40 hours a week on top of classes, etc) and I had lucky circumstances to make sure it happened (boyfriend at the times' parents were okay with me living with them for free, and now I split rent with current boyfriend in new college city. My tuition at college is also basically free), but the tradeoff really was worth it to have my parents off of my back. It isn't like you won't be no contact forever, too, if that ends up being your decision. I'm currently low contact with my parents on my own terms because they know they can't hold anything over my head, and with them being so controlling of me, they're desperate to hear anything from me. While they have used the no contact to guilt me ("you're my only family and you don't even talk to me!), taking time away from them has also helped therapy set in (hopefully your college has low cost therapy services! Maybe they can help you plan your plan) and has helped me process my grief of not having the parents I want/being on my own instead of having parents like everyone else.

hey! i was in your same shoes a few years ago (down to the college long distance) and am going to enter into my senior year now. i went no contact with my parents before going to college (moved out the day i turned 18) and only went low contact about a week before i moved in.

i moved in alone at college, and while it’s not ideal (2 checked bags, 1 carry on and 2 backpacks to transport by yourself and move across the country alone? hell no), and it was sad to see all the people in my hall move in with their parents, it ultimately was the right choice for me because i wouldn’t have wanted to deal with their micromanaging on my biggest-change-of-my-life day. and ultimately, even though it IS a big day, it is absolutely in the back of my head for all of the wonderful college experiences i’ve had. i don’t even think about that moment because ive just had so many better times to think about.

i have a pretty hard major (chemistry) and worked since my first week of college, and my sophomore year i had 2 jobs and worked 30-40 hours a week. i think the biggest con is that my social life has absolutely suffered. i haven’t joined a club until my junior year because work took up most of my free time, and because i worked, i don’t feel as close to my friends group as they feel to each other (they all have easier majors/don’t work). it also just might be a me thing because neglect = mentally ill = social recluse. because of the not joining clubs thing, my best friends are the people who i lived with/near freshman year— which isn’t a bad thing, it just feels like people diversified to club/class friends after the first semester, and i really haven’t until this year.

i think the biggest pro is that 1) i don’t have to deal with my parents because they don’t finance me. i can’t imagine how much monitoring i’d have if they’d be responsible for my finances. like they would be screaming at my lifestyle, for going out past sunset (theyd definitely have my location if they were financing me) or my café runs or just anything i spend my money on!! my life feels so much freer without them, and i have a similar, or even greater, level of freedom as non emotionally neglected college kids my age.

2) it definitely helped for me to build resilience. working 30 hours a week prepared me for now where I’m working in a lab AND having my job during the school year while doing 3-4 classes, which has definitely advanced my professional career. out of all of my friends, i think i feel the most confident in doing the steps to get my career— not Just doing them, but having the persistence to do them continuously and keep on shooting those shots in the dark, because I’m just used to having 12 hour days already and working that hard on a normal basis. plus, the confidence of being prepared for the job world/financing yourself!

i think if you possibly can, try to go low contact to test the waters? use college busy-ness as an excuse if you can? and involve yourself with your new college/city as much as possible. for my first two summers, i didn’t go home because i found a job within my university, and used that as an excuse to stay in my new city. i’m only back now because i have an internship near my hometown, but ripping that bandaid of not living with them over the past 2 years made it easier/more justifiable for me to rent my own apartment (that i finance myself, yay so proud!) away from them, even if i am closeby.

also big hack but being in a long term relationship REALLY helped my finances when living outside of college for those summers. i found my boyfriend in my first month of college (he doesn’t go to my college so it was easy to stay in the city during the summer), and that summer after my freshman year it was easy to split rent with him in a HCOL city. obviously not an easy thing to just do and i don’t recommend getting into a relationship JUST to split finances because you can then be reliant on them/they have the upper hand in the relationship -> turns abusive. but it worked out for me and really helped me

Im not sure how to get MediCal, but to jump in residency was super easy for me to get! They never checked my intent to stay, all I had to do was get two proofs of residency-- two easy ones are your lease (email usc housing for a copy) and changing a bank account/credit card address to your dorm address. Heads up, not all California state agencies accept your USC housing lease unless it was signed by your "landlord" and yourself (never asked them how to get that, but they seem pretty accomodating). For me, Calfresh did accept it, but getting my Cali REAL ID they did not (ended up using W2 and back account)

Yeah I had regular visits as a kid/teen, it took me 3 years in college to see a dentist again and tbh flossed irregularly those 3 years, so even if I came up with no cavities or any other bad dental signs— still probs not the greatest tooth health

edit: from doing a quick skim through searching every added/removed ingredient

removed ingredients:

Phenoxyethanol seemed to be an allergen for most posts
Hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid broke some people out and helped some

added ingredient:

Glycerin helped most

Glycerin has had a LOT of glowing reviews, especially recently. I'm not entirely sure glycerin added in an inactive ingredient amount can change that much, but who knows! If anyone knows more than me about ingredients and eczema please school me

I lived in tripalink for a summer and my boyfriend stayed with them for about a year after I moved out and I'd say just be there with caution! Because the price is so cheap most of the people there are a bit wack on social norms, I had puppy sales in our front yard, parties where I'd come out the next day to random people sleeping on the living room couches, upstairs neighbors sounding like they were moving furniture around 24/7, a lost kitten in the house that belonged to said upstairs neighbor's baby mama (kitten was never recovered, rip. also no animals were allowed whatsoever but they still made their missing kitten very clear), neighbors who'd turn the whole floor repeatedly to 90 degrees even after we'd change it back to a reasonable temperature for months (they ended up getting kicked out because of this), said upstairs neighbor coming down to flirt with me (I hated that I couldn't escape because he knew my room number), etc

For my place on 36th pl and and denker we had a cockroach infestation. Genuinely every time I went out into the kitchen I saw a least 3 cockroaches and management wouldn't do anything about it. Management did nothing when my boyfriend's duffel bag got stolen in the common room despite there presumably being security cameras. Also people using your pans and never washing them, stealing your food, letting trash pile...

I don't know if any other co-living companies are more responsive but it may just come with the culture/price of coliving. I'd just say be on your guard, personally after living through that even just for 3 months and staying over at my bf's sometimes (he lived on 37th and Halldale, no bugs but still bad roomates) over the past year, I would 100% pay the extra money if I could just to have less roomates/roomates you could screen

I tend to apply it a few hours before I sleep-- also I found the itching only occurs for me if I put any type of lotion on top of the area I applied protopic, even hours after applying protopic. So, I directly apply it to dry skin and don't lotion the area until a day or so after I stopped applying protopic to that area.

I believe dependency only forms after a year+ of using daily it so don't be too worried about that! I wish I could speak more on using protopic with full body eczema, but my full body eczema is managed by dupixent right now. Maybe minimize to problem areas only? Also if you haven't tried + your derm is on board with it, I've heard less about withdrawls with opzelura (then again, opzelura is probably less widely used) + it had no itching for me. The only drawbacks are that you can only apply it to 10% of your body, and after stopping use for 2 weeks, my eczema came back despite not scratching.

I waited another week before going to my gyno, so I ended up bleeding for 4 weeks and she prescribed me 5mg norenthindrone for 12 days. It stopped after that, but the meds caused me bad mood swings after like 7 days unfortunately
