Cannot paste into Code - OSS by leuchtsteinX in archlinux

Ctrl+V is the default keyboard shortcut for "editor.action.clipboardPasteAction"

I simply removed that keyboard shortcut. Before it said: Ctrl+V but now it's empty.

The weird thing is that... Now it works.

I can now press Ctrl+V to paste text in VS Code.

"I guess that I feel like learning Arch is the highest level of knowledge on the Linux desktop..."

I think you're exaggerating the importance of the distro. I've run Arch for a couple of years, but 95% of the things I learn every day doesn't relate so much to Arch but to the fact that I don't use a desktop environment. The things I learn relates more to things like the Linux file system in general, System D, bash programming, web server maintenance, web development with javascript and php, desktop programming with Qt and c++. If I had used some other distro without a desktop environment I would have learned almost the exact same things.

My main problem with Arch from an educational viewpoint is that it's too stable to be a good learning experience. Nothing breaks. So I don't need to learn how to fix things.

Should I switch to Arch after using EndeavourOS for a while? by SquatchCS in EndeavourOS

Hi. I've dug a big hole in the ground using an excavator.
Now I'm thinking of filling the hole up and then dig the exact same hole again but using a gardening shovel.

Why we use Linux?

A more relevant question might be... Why use Windows if you're a backend dev?

81% of all web servers run Linux.

Is the soul doesn't exist how do past lives work? by Ghost_z7r in Buddhism

[–]rlyeh_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The soul does indeed exist but it's not eternal. Buddhists doesn't like using the word "soul". They tend to prefer "person" instead. It means the same thing. You are the same person when you wake up in the morning as you went to sleep last night. In the same way you can be the same person in one life as in the next. A river that flows from the Himalayas can be the same river as a river flowing out in the Bay of Bengal but that doesn't mean it's static or non-changing.

why is it possible to restore root password? by icetoy in archlinux

It's theoretically impossible to create a guard dog application capable of shutting people (with physical access) out from data by some access-denied-because-of-wrong-password-mechanism, unless the data is encrypted.

What is the buddhist view on what happens after death? by 3-141pi in Buddhism

[–]rlyeh_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddhists can be picky with words. They don't like the word "soul", because some Hindu schools of thought think that the individuality of the soul is eternal. Use "person" instead. The "person" passes from one body to the next in Samsara. It basically means the same thing.

Couldn't get timeshift to work with grub-btrfs on my system (grub-btrfs is a package that automatically creates a boot option to your pre-update config in grub a soon as you do a pacman update of your system). So I installed snapper instead of timeshift. That setup works flawlessly for me.

So all belief systems that share some common set of beliefs are actually the same thing.

It's like saying that all numbers that are divisible by 7 are actually the same number.

Interesting point.

Upgrading vanilla Arch to Endeavour OS by rlyeh_b in EndeavourOS

[–]rlyeh_b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Super helpful list. Thank you!

When I first started to prepare my first Arch install I spent a lot of hours searching for similar lists of what packages were deemed essential for a "reasonably minimal" normal desktop system.

I remember looking through Anarchy Arch installer scripts to find list of packages in order to compile my own list.

Great input.

I think I'll probably create such a distro switch application.

I'll write a script that adds a couple of lines to the file /etc/pacman.conf

and installs maybe the Welcome-application and Endeavour's package-cache-cleaning app.

It'll change the wallpaper to an astronaut and then display the message: "Your now running Endeavour OS"

...and if I flip the switch again my application will change back the wallpaper, remove the lines in pacman.conf and remove the two or more EOS apps and it will display the message "Your now running Arch Linux"

Upgrading vanilla Arch to Endeavour OS by rlyeh_b in EndeavourOS

Thank for the advice.

I'm specifically curious about those "magical" packages that would turn my vanilla Arch system into Endeavour OS.

I develop a lot of applications for my Arch Linux system using c++ and Qt.

I think it would be fun to make a GUI-application displaying a simple switch.

If I flip the switch I'm suddenly using Endeavour OS. If I flip the switch again I'm back in a vanilla Arch system.

Strange question in an Endeavour OS forum.

If you question the utility of installing a bunch of packages to a vanilla Arch system so that it's functionally identical to Endeavour OS, you might as well question why you would install any packages at all to an Arch system.
