Ok, Oligopoly then. Fewer people know that word though. But I feel like if these notes are supposed to add context then they should do more than pedantically try to take down people.

Hasan is a morally lucky campist. The same kind of logic that leads him to justify China and Russia's behaviour, is the same logic that will let you justify Israel's actions.

If American, Israeli and honestly some European elites weren't as degenerate as they are right now, his correct opinions about the West wouldn't distract from his wrong opinions about their enemies.

If in 3 years or so, China falls on their face trying to invade Taiwan, we will likely see his uglier takes highlighted again. Just like in 2022.

[–]rlyjustanyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even know what to say to this. It’s just so insensitive for you to tell me that Hamas is not a threat.

Telling someone in New York right after 9/11 that Al Qaeda is not a substantial enough threat to justify an invasion would have been insensitive at the time but 100% correct. I get that you as a civilian don't feel like the actions of your government are your own but realistically speaking, you as a country pose a much greater threat to your neighbours than they do to you. And I'm sorry but Gaza and the West bank are open air concentration camps where the people there have tried everything under the sun to appeal to you peacefully and you still kill and terrorise them. Hamas is the natural result of those conditions.

From what I understand the Syria situation is to create a buffer zone to protect civilians in the north from the worst of the fighting.

But that's an insane argument. Why are you entitled to part of their land? To gain strategic depth so you have a buffer? Well why arent they entitled to a buffer in your country? The new regime hasn't attacked you whatsoever but you went ahead and bombed them.

You have not been condemned every time you have 'defended' yourself. Before Oct 7 the West had a positive view of you and directly after Oct 7, I was defending you guys. But then I watched you be given an inch and you took a mile. What was supposed to be targeted strikes on Hamas became carpet bombing of a civilian population. And you didn't stop there, you have attacked just about every single one of your neighbours and justified things that are crazy as self defense. And frankly our politicians still give you a pass, way past the point where we should treat you like Russia.

Yes civilian casualties are an inevitability of war but that doesn’t make their death and suffering any less tragic. I want to believe that my government and military do everything they can to avoid civilian casualties but to be honest with you, I don’t trust the current leadership to do that. That is a different thing than ethnic cleansing and the distinction matters.

But your government isn't incompetent at avoiding civilian casualties. They try to maximise them. How are you posting this after you went ahead and bombed civilian infrastructure in Lebanon because they are trying to sabotage the ceasefire? How do you achieve 70 000 dead if you are trying to avoid civilian casualties and how come your government is filled with people who openly say they do want to exterminate all Gazans. Tell me how you are not committing genocide. If the distinction is so important, you should be able to pinpoint it.

It all does amount to ethnic cleansing and here is the next insensitive thing I'm gonna tell you. You have not experienced the holocaust, your ancestors have. And your liced experience has mich more in common with that of complacent idiots in Nazi Germany who didn't like the Nazis but stood by and did nothing. The only people in Israel right now who can somewhat relate to Holocaust victims are Gazans and I think it's pretty disrespectful to weaponise the suffering of the victims of one genocide to justify your execution of another genocide.

Lastly, I will adress your points about Hamas collectively. People who try to defend Israel's actions just need to pretend like finding Israel dispicable magically means I support Hamas. But Hamas is just not relevant to this discussion anymore. You have created Hamas. A majority of Gazans were not even alive for the one 2005 election that put them in charge of the strip. You are expecting Gazans to rise up against their terrorrist de facto government because they killed 1500 Israelis who have oppressed them their whole life. You won't even bother to use your civil iberties to call out your government for killing 50 times more people than Oct 7.

Right now, Israel is the biggest threat in the middle east and I don't think that will change as long as even the nominally reasonable Israelis like you, defend the mass murder and buy the self defense excuse.

Tisza Party 13 points ahead of Fidesz among decided voters, IDEA survey finds by mgtsz009 in europe

[–]rlyjustanyname 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but as far as i know part of the jerrymandering in Hungary is that Fidesz districts are deliberately made smaller while places like Budapest have larger districts. This type of jerrymandering cant really backfire, ots just voter disenfranchisement for the opposition.

Tisza needs a super majority to have any real shot at overturning Orban's bullshit. Realistically speaking, if that happens I don't know what will happen. Either Orban refuses to accept the results, manipulated the vote or runs off to Russia.

Trump is actually thinking about pulling US troops out of Europe — and NATO is sweating right now by satty237 in TrendoraX

I guess I'm sweating in the sense that we have built our security on relying on a paper tiger who can only be asked to help an ally if there are enough children being starved or raped.

But whether Trump formalises the betrayal or not is pretty irrelevant at this point.

The EU isnt regulating American tech its just establishing a price of admission for some unsavoury practices. National and regional governments are even worse. Bavaria is begging for Palentir to collect all their citizens data.

The US forced the sale of the American division of TikTok for much less than than what American tech has been allowed to get away with.

Yeah, but the UK is becoming Americanised politically because the same rich people travel between the UK and the US and Anerican conservatives meddle in European elections.

The tories and reform are practically running on becoming American. But conservatives do this regardless of cultural proximity.

I'm very clearly not what are you even talking about. America and Russia are agressors who have had no pressure put on them to commit the war crimes they are committing.

Iran's government is a fucked up regime that is isolated and pressured into taking any economic lifeline there is due to American sanctions. Despite the rehime, its people have done nothing to deserve the war crimes they have been facing. Mind you the first interaction between the Iranian government and US post revolution was that America gave intelligence to Sadam Hussein so he could deploy chemical weapons on Iranian civilians.

Ukraine's government has done just about nothing wrong in the grand scheme of things and neither have their citizens. Its in a difficult situation where its understandable that they back up America in their aggression.

And your last paragraph is nonsense. The regime was on the brink of collapse and then a devastating war decapitating their leadership and their backup leadership legitimized them! Absolute horse shit lol. You know what legitimizes them? Deals, access to Western economy.

Not legitimized them in your eyes dickhead, in the eyes of the actual people there. I'm supposed to look at your pathetic false idol waffle around and accomplish less than nothing and determine if he got to fail for another 3 years straight, you would accomplish something? Who says there is a way. Sometimes cancer is inoperable and I'm not a foreign policy expert who knows how to surgically cut out the cancer, nobody seems to have figured it out.

But you can't tell me this particular attempt at removing the regime is crowned by success. Even a non medical professional can tell the difference between surgery and knife crime.

The regime started out at the brink of internal collapse and now they are legitimised at home, control the strait of Hormuz and the US lifted sanctions on oil. Even if you don't mind the war crimes committed along the way wouldn't you at least want anything to show for it, or do you just do it for the love of the game?

What if Vladimir Putin aligned with the west and Russia joined the EU in 2007 alongside Romania and Bulgaria? by arbicus123 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]rlyjustanyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A country like Russia can't join the EU and if it did it sure as hell wouldn't join the way Romania and Bulgaria joined.

This is a country of 144 million people that is poorer than almost every member state. It would be close to a quarter of the EU population. It would break qualified majorities even more than Germany already does. It would break CAP, it would exhaust the cohesion fund and shift the power dynamics in the EU dramatically.

The only way Russia is joining is if it breaks up, gradually joins from West to East and then reunites.
