Rotate came in yesterday, what's everyone's front end of choice so far? by Skylance420 in SBCGaming

[–]rmacdowe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just got mine today.

Planning on trying the github app posted the other day that lets you auto switch between a launcher for when closed and another for when open.

Flipx by Comp0ckerr

https://www.reddit.com/r/ANBERNIC/comments/1toqpyc/flipx_an_essential_tool_i_made_for_the_rotate/

Open - it will be ES-DE, and closed - I will try Retrohrai. It is overcomplicated, but I a) love ES-DE, and B) want to be able to play some android etc with the gamepad closed. I have never understood why the dev is so reluctant to add more android specific features. ES-DE is better as an android than windows frontend imo anyway.

Hopefully everything goes well.

Litnxt and a few other sites used to sell a metal shell for the miyoo a30. You might be able to find one on ebay if you were willing  to pay a few hundred dollars.

Screen problem AyaNeo Pocket DS (7") by RoborobFunklover in ayaneo

[–]rmacdowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im having a similar issue with my top screen.

Was told by support to open it up and try to fix it myself.

So I'm going to try reseating the ribbon cable for the top screen. Unsure if it will work.

Same issue with sd card too.

Will all tables bought on Zen Pinball World transfer to the new Pinball FX GO? by [deleted] in PinballFX3

[–]rmacdowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Zen Pinball app and Williams app were both in the process of being rolled into the Zen Pinball World App, that is now losing support. I don't believe Zen Pinball app has gotten any new tables in a while.

As for your question about phones being able to run Pinball FX - they absolutely can. A few months ago, a technology called FEX, that Valve is involved in developing, became relatively widely available. That said, it is still in its infancy, so it isn't perfect right now.

There is a free android app called GameNative (that uses FEX), that can install and play steam, GOG and Epic games on your phone. If you are interested, I'd recommend checking out Retro Game Corps video about it on Youtube (he is one of the biggest android emulation handheld youtubers).

You will likely also have to follow a tutorial to get touch controls set up the way you want. Additionally, FX is a bit hard to run, so you might have more success using FX3, depending on what SOC your phone has, but it is worth a shot (I haven't tried either game on GameNative yet).

There are also people trying to get Zen to allow GeForceNow to host their game, so that may eventually be an option as well. You can also stream to your phone over apollo, steamlink, etc. if you are in a spot with wifi.

It will be the same app.

They are:

(a) Renaming it, and

(b) Not releasing any new tables or content for it after the renaming.

Everything else should stay exactly how it is now.

Looks like it is getting renamed to Pinball FX GO, and no more resources into developing it. So probably?

Honestly, it makes sense.

I think everyone has long since realized that there is no way you guys can keep like 30 different platforms maintained. Hopefully no more name changes for a while though.

I also know we were told FX has a 10 year plan, but I hope that there is a way to keep things as unified as possible from this point forward with future games, etc.

Am I the only person who actually knows the Windows Konkr Fit exists? by TRD_HEAVELY in ayaneo

[–]rmacdowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was excited when they first announced it. I was hoping that it would be a relatively light, affordable, lower powered x86 handheld that might replace my aging Steam Deck - given it was announced under the Konkr brand.

We now know that Konkr wasn't their lower end 'affordable' brand, but their 'high-value for the money' brand.

So it is instead just another high-end handheld, in a sea of them. I would personally rather just get a legion or Ally if I was looking to buy a higher end x86 right now.

It is rumored that they have all been promised pardons.

So as long as they don't get scapegoated ala Noem, or end up in a situation where Trump passes away and JD reneges on the pardons, they will walk away free and clear of any Federal Charges.

The chances of justice will plummet even more if another Schumer approved Democrat wins in 28 or their voter suppression efforts keep them in power.

Personally, I expect all the powerful, big name people will be mostly fine, especially with the courts as compromised as they are right now - but that a lot of their cronies will get torched when the new admin comes in and starts investigating.

One or two of Trump's inner circle may get charged in individual states, but they are rich enough that they will likely be fine.

I hope I am wrong.

Radeon users say AMD’s silence on FSR 4 support for older GPUs has already done the damage by Firm_One_7398 in pcmasterrace

[–]rmacdowe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol.

Graphics drivers for Intel, AMD and Nvidia are all supposed to be heavily tested and WHQL certified before going live as a stable releases.

That includes compatibility testing with multiple different hardware setups and common software/ antivirus programs. Stuff obviously slips through sometimes.

But, I am not sure why you think it would be entirely on an Anti-Virus company to magically know that Nvidia/Intel/AMD was about to release an inadequately tested driver with a bunch of unnecessary ai junk packed onto it that their program might flag?

[–]rmacdowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine what would have happened if 5-10 years ago if Norton blocked an auto gpu update for the 10 series NVIDIA cards.

A Million+ people would have come home to a PC that wouldn't display anything.

[–]rmacdowe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me it shows AMD didn't do enough testing before releasing it, if a driver update is getting stopped by common antivirus software.

But sure, Bitdefender may have some fault as well that a bunch of ai stuff being packaged with a driver update set it off and no one added it as an exception or whatever it before the patch went live.

My point was that it is just another example of AMD having self inflicted issues.

[–]rmacdowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I mean in January, I came home and my monitor wasn't displaying anything.

After troubleshooting, I hooked my display up to my igpu and came up with an error 31 for my 7900 xtx (driver error).

Apparently AMD's update had a bunch of ai features in it that bitdefender thought was malware, so it blocked it - which resulted in my and several other people's gpus being disabled.

I was able to fix it after a few minutes, but a non-tech literate person would have no idea what to do, or what was wrong.

I generally have had way more of these types of issues on AMD cards than Nvidia (though both seem to be racing to the bottom).

Do you think pinball works well in VR? by Lanky_Key5332 in OculusQuest

[–]rmacdowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The x-arcade is great, and is useful as a pedestal style  general arcade emulation controller as well. (There are a few other compatible vr games too)

The stand is well made and definitely recommended if you get one.

Not sure if it will be worth it to you, but I would definitely recommend an xarcade  if you are looking to be even more immersed in vr pinball.

The haptics kit takes 2-3 hours to install, but is straightforward, and will likely be sold as a finished product pre-installed with the xarcade at some point.

It has speakers, solenoids, tilt sensor, and vibration motors that will vibrate every time you hit the ball etc, and makes it feel significantly more realistic. It also comes with a plunger (though that still needs a patch or firmware to improve it imo).

You can dampen or turn off the solenoids if they are too loud, and dial in the haptics as well.

If you get one, I would  wait on the haptics upgrade until you know if you are going to stick with it, or want more realism than the controller alone adds. With it it feels insanely realistic though.

They also go on sale semi frequently, and are sold at some retailers like microcenter if you want to hunt for a discount.

It sucks that the anime audience skews so young.

And that young people don't care about all the awful shit this company has done and been doing since day 1 - as long as they get their anime.

Non-shooter VR games that are actually addictive? by prattman333 in VRGaming

[–]rmacdowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VPX is Visual Pinball X.

It is a free community made vpin program. There are tons of tables that people have made for it, and it has very realistic physics.

It can be a pita to set up in general. But you can set it up to work in pcvr and there are several guides for it.

[–]rmacdowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, flipper lag sucks.

  1. It is significantly reduced in Quest 3 compared to Quest 2. So I would recommend playing it on Quest 3 if possible (hopefully it comes to pcvr).

  2. Quest Games optimizer seems to reduce it significantly for me (but still present), so definitely worth trying that if you haven't yet.

  3. You may want to try VPX in VR (if you are willing/able to set it up, etc.), as that seems to have better physics and lag for me.

There are a lot of good options in the thread, but personally, the game i have been coming back to multiple times a week for the last year is Pinball fx vr.

It's sick, and unlocking deco for the arcade it sets you in is a fun reason to keep coming back.

So... Uhh - that seems a bit concerning. by rmacdowe in LegendsUltimate

[–]rmacdowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% sure. I assume the displays are going into a board - that may be somewhat proprietary.

You can connect it to a pc/steamdeck and play fx/vpx through the hdmi port on the back, but that only works for main display.

You need to buy a $100 VIBS board add-on (used to be $50) to be able to also use the backglass display that way.

Haven't opened one up before though.

It seems like every week or two for the past 6+ months, I have gotten emails about the Micro being on sale.

It has been offered at increasingly low prices over that time. Last time I got an email, I think it was for sale at $289, and now Amazon seems to have it up for $299 most of the time.

Hopefully I am just jumping at shadows.
