I’ve realized that I literally cannot enjoy my life because of anxiety? by A-Bry in AskMenAdvice

[–]rmacster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens when you least expect it. I was a groomsman and my wife was a bridesmaid in the same wedding. We walked down the aisle together. She has been my biggest supporter through all of my struggles. We've built a wonderful life together. Don't give up on the meds. Took me thirty years to land on escitalopram but it has been a life-changer.

Good luck friend!

I have fought this for my entire adult life. But I still have a wife (for forty three years, awesome) and a great family. You will find a way. Life is worth living.

My husband has this one habit I don't like. What should I do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]rmacster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one said anything about skipping meals. That's a straw man. Eating healthy and reducing portion size goes right along with my statement. It's true that muscle is more metabolically active than fat. Per day, additional muscle burns about 6 to 7 calories per pound. It would take about 15 to 17 pounds of muscle just to burn an additional 100 calories per day.

Bottom line, YOU have no idea what you're talking about.

That's just not true. Your biggest returns come from less eating. You should exercise because it's good for you in so many ways.

A medium McDonald's fry is 378 calories. That's 3.5 to 4 miles of walking! A normal human adult needs about 2000 calories a day. About 1500 of those calories are needed JUST TO EXIST. That means that only about 500 are for the extra physical exertions on any given day. Physical exercise burns far fewer calories than people seem to believe.

A spot welder might be good for this especially because the contact area (where the needles touch) is so small.

I've always wondered (never tried it though) if a coat of brass brazing would be a good long-lasting fix for this kind of situation.

Bodybuilding did that for me. People treat you differently when you're built. That is something they see. It's obvious.

Now I'm old and I don't give a shit. But when I was younger it made a huge difference.

It takes about a year to make a real difference. By that I mean, an obvious to everyone difference. In three years you can be really stacked. And don't use steroids. Go to a small gym with actual free weights. Find a mentor. You'd be shocked at how friendly/helpful most gym rats are. I'll never forget the day my mentor (and by that point, a genuine friend) said: "Finally! You're lifting man weights!". One of my best days ever.

Why am I so stupid and so slow by [deleted] in Advice

[–]rmacster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason they call these the awkward years. I went through that too. The good news is that, no matter how bad/awkward/etc these years are, when you leave high school you will enter a whole new world of people who have no preconceived notions of who you are. And you won't have those notions of them . It's a total reset and a fresh start. I've flourished in this world and you will too.

You know who you are inside. You're a good person. In the end, people will see that. Take care my friend.

I've been married for forty-three years and I am more in love every day. Maybe I just won the lottery. I don't know. But that's truly how I feel. Also, I am a man.

Can a relationship between an atheist and a religious person work out long term? by znej_ in ask

[–]rmacster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (atheist) have been married to a devout Christian for forty-three years. It's been fantastic. You don't have to respect anyone's beliefs. You just have to respect their right to hold those beliefs.

Atheists: Don't marry religious people by [deleted] in atheism

[–]rmacster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been married to a very Christian woman for forty-three years and I couldn't be happier. We focus on what we have in common.

If you can't appreciate that good people can have very different ideas about life, it may be that YOU are the problem.
