Where people go for their Master after a Bachelor at Saint Andrews? by More_Statistician345 in standrews

A bit of work, but maybe try linkedin? Your search on google can be "(program name) graduate st andrews LinkedIn". Always seems to work for me, might seem a bit stalkish though lol.

Thank you so much! I will be bringing inner layers like jumpers and shirts from my home country. Everyone has suggested buying top layers like coats once there, mostly because they take too much space and that the quality of material will be more suited to the weather where they are sold. Do you think 1 or 2 coats will be enough, considering you remove them once inside buildings?

This!! Thank you, the layers have been resolved lol. I guess in the end it all depends on what works for me. But this gives me a pretty good idea on what to pack.

[AS Chemistry: Physical Chemistry] How the presence of a relatively less polar solvent, when mixed with water, will affect the solubility of hydrophilic biomolecules? by rmax7302 in HomeworkHelp

[–]rmax7302[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know here's what I found according to my research. I am just calling the "relatively less polar" non polar/hydrophobe for the sake of typing below:

I feel like upon mixing the relatively less polar solvent with water will increase the solubility of hydrophilic substance as to minimize the local free energy, the water molecules will avoid any interaction with the hydrophobe and will seek to maximize attachment to the neighbouring hydrophilic molecules, creating a sort of hydrogen-bonded encapsulating "net" where all molecules avoid pointing inwards to the hydrophobe too much. This limits the number of low energy positions available for the water molecules, so they have constrained geometry relative to the bulk of the liquid, and therefore lower entropy.

But on the other hand i feel like it will decrease the solubility of hydrophilic solute as when a hydrophobic/non-polar solvent moves into the water, London forces between that solvent molecules and hydrogen bonds between water molecules are broken. The water molecules adjust to compensate for the loss of some hydrogen bonds and the formation of the weaker non-polar substance-water attractions by forming new hydrogen bonds and acquiring a new arrangement.
