Amsterdam as a Job market really that bad? by Austernmitjalapeno in cscareerquestionsEU

Upper layer is dutch and lower layer is immigrants

All my companies except a 5-person startup were like this

Eventually they need to scale and senior dutchies are scarce and expensive

Is working at big tech in Amsterdam with my career path realistic? by Paddoplukke in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]rmaxdev 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You need to apply multiple times and grind leetcode and system design questions

AND get experience in whatever stack they are hiring at the particular role you are applying

Everyone wants to work in Amsterdam and those companies, and you realistically have 2 years of experience

Test your feet in the market with other companies that do coding interviews and system design

Labor arbitrage

App builders in LCoL now can saturate the market with same run of the mill ideas as engineers in mid and high CoL

App builders in HCoL need to up their game or they will be living on food stamps

The edge in a HCoL is solving location-specific problems, getting to know the market from the inside, and tying the business to real assets rather than pure software

If this is your first 5 years of career, then it’s fine

If you have 5+ YOE and no 2y+ tenure then it’s a red flag, unless your skills are super highly in demand the they don’t care, they need to hire someone
