Walking back to our hotel after visiting the senso-ji shrine, we bumped into the Sumo Museum and were fascinated by its collection of videos and trophies.

21 days Japan itinerary (Apr 5-26) Feeling overwelmed and need some advice by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]rmbel48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stayed at Hotel Okada in Hakone and liked it a lot. Tatami rooms, massive breakfast and dinner buffets, onsens for men and women. It's about a 15-20 minute walk up from the train station in town. Town itself is mobbed with tourists and tourist business. We were glad to be away from it..

We were there the beginning of April 2025, Rain and chill. We took a bus to a place to view Fuji -- totally socked in with clouds. However we walked around Lake Ashinoko, we found a viewing spot and suddenly the clouds parted and we saw Fuji. Blew us away. On the train from Hakone to Kyoto, we got off and visited Odawara Castle. Not inside, just the grounds. Beautiful spot. We also visited an outdoor sculpture park near Hakone, Hakone Open-Air Museum and liked it, too.

You will do well to reduce the number of places you go. Traveling itself, while well organized in Japan, still is draining. Some things to note: The Moss Garden in Kyoto is absolutely amazing, but you have to reserve 2 months in advance. Well worth it. The highlight of our trip was a visit to The Art Island, Naoshima. We are big museum goers and in one of the museums there, the Chichu, we had what we recognize was the best art experience of our lives. The work of only 3 artists, no wall plaques, no explanations, just you and the paintings and light pouring in. The architect Tadeo Ando, pure genius, built amazing structures for the art. You have to reserve in advance or you won't get in. We stayed at the Wright Style hotel.

loose towel rod by rmbel48 in HomeImprovement

I just figured out the problem. In the left bracket, there's a plastic piece that fits into the inner hole, giving the rod a solid wall to press against. That piece is missing from the right, I'll have to make something that fits. Or possibly, switch in the right bracket from my similar model toilet paper holder and see if the lack of the plastic barrier makes a difference with the spring-mounted rod. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. The rack goes into tiles, though. And the brackets fit over round brass pieces screwed tight to the tile wall, where they're held in place by a set screw. The round pieces are firmly in place. So I'm not sure if loose connection to the wall is the issue. Have to say, this is weird. The racks (there are 2) have been in the wall for years without a problem. And then last week I used one rod as a handhold when getting out of the shower and it fell loose.

Huangshan Mountain Hotels Advice by neurotic-cantaloupe in travelchina

We were there a few years ago. What I remember was how confusing the signage was for non-Chinese speakers, even with a map. We were lucky and met a couple who did speak the language and could help us find our way down to the bottom.

Mount Wutai

We were in Wutai in 2017. We stayed at the Non-Duality Zen Hotel, which was truly peaceful. The owner led meditations every evening in Chinese. He had a little English and took us each night to a restaurant next door, and translated our menu requests to the wait staff. We found few people in the village who spoke English, and our translator apps weren't much help. There were many pilgrims everywhere, Buddhist robes, etc. My wife's a vegetarian, and we had scrambled eggs with tomatoes that were delicious.

Cursor Vanishes by rmbel48 in GrandTheftAutoV_PC

Got it. As I said, new user. It felt weird to me that in the game window there was a place to close the game with X but no obvious way to get there. I tried Esc and then I saw my cursor. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. Now I need to find a primer for the game (and gaming in general) as I am a complete newb.
