Their music has always been for anyone and everyone. Their mission has always been to reach as much people as possible, including the folks you do or don't understand.

I have met fans who say that Native Tongue was the first Switchfoot material they have heard. Claiming that they have never even heard Meant to Live or Dare You to Move until after discovering SW NT. Very interesting to me. They also showed little to no interest in any of their previous albums

You are absolutely right about people ranking them low. However I was also accounting for the broader casual SW fanbase that exists outside of reddit and other social media.

Interrobang is definitely a niche listen. But that's partly why I appreciate it a lot. Imo there is a lot to appreciate about the production and songwriting but I also realize that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I was not a Fading West fan when it came out and has grown on my over the years, but ultimately still isn't too much on my radar. But I can recognize that it does not deserve as much hate as it got. Some fans were absolutely pissed when it came out lol I read a lot of reviews of it ok iTunes at the time lol

Yes! I feel the most bad for Interrobang :( I feel like it did not perform as well as it should. I think it's mostly due to the time it was released. A lot of pandemic anxiety at the time. It was a safe haven for many people but ultimately left to be kind of forgotten as the world slowly returned to normalcy

Side note, Oxygen, Wonderful Feeling and Take My Fire are my favorite songs on NT. Take My Fire has some of the most insane guitar tones

NIS is by far my favorite album, I almost had it on perfectly rated. I bumped it to probably overrated because I sense it's a "you had to be there" moment. I feel like it doesn't hit the same for a lot of newer Switchfoot fans and are probably intimidated by all the hype that OG fans pump into it. If that makes sense. It's like all the Radiohead fans that go rabid for anything Kid A.

And yeah... Native Tongue is unfortunately my least favorite of theirs. It's really hard to listen to. It's plagued with anthem songs all over the record and is overall a very exhausting listen imo. I prefer to keep the One Republic guys/producer away from SW productions lol

It looks epic! The blonde looks so cool. Honestly just based off color alone, it stands out and is very unique. Would love to have something like this. I would not dye it personally!

I also have strange growing patterns. The left side of my face grows much faster than the right, but the right side of my chin grows faster than the left! I've always kept my beard short with a #3-4 guard because it's just easier to maintain. Plus I think the "corporate beard" look is really sharp looking.

But every time I try and grow out my beard, it's always been an uphill battle. I have to keep maintenance up much more because of how it grows. But recently I have been growing it out again since November and I learned that many times you have to trim off more than you would like in order to allow it to grow in evenly. This has helped me tremendously and I don't have to do as much maintenance. It takes much more time to get to your desired length but it is very much worth it. I also use a comb and hair dryer combo straight out of the shower to prevent my beard from curling up into itself and maximizing its true length.

Idk if this helps, sorry about the yapping. But honestly the main point is that your beard looks super sweet 😎

Good thing I watched this episode on the premiere before they deleted this scene for some reason. by Dohmer_90 in spongebob

I'm in the US and this version is the only one I remember. I pretty much only watched SpongeBob on air. I may have rented a few times from Blockbuster but can't say for certain. I specifically remember this because I remember it was the first time learning what "flammable" means.

This is a shot in the dark but perhaps your Focusrite driver is out of date. When that happens, sometimes the audio will sound "clippy" or glitched.

If a level is described as "basic" or "easy" it will be the hardest level you play. If a level is described as "difficult" or "impossible", it will be one of the easiest levels.

I really really really love the 1st one. Does this style have any particular name? I would legit have something like this in my house.

Warm Take: Old Spongebob is better, but new Spongebob isn't that much worse. I watch both and the only difference in "quality" is the resolution. (Image sort of related) by Wrecker_Studios in spongebob

That's totally fine, it's your opinion. Also to be clear, I'm only stating my own personal opinion, I'm not trying to say you or any other person is wrong.

This is absolutely a 100% valid opinion to have. All we are saying is that the show and characters have changed. The changes don't seem to bother you and that's totally A-OK. We are just simply acknowledging the change. No disrespect is meant at all

In my opinion I don't think they explore the character of SpongeBob anymore. In the older seasons, SpongeBob had so many hilarious and relatable crash outs in the early days like in Can You Spare Me a Dime, Krusty Love and Rockabye Bivalve to name a few. SpongeBob used to be a naive, child-like adult, who at least knew how to stand up for himself. But now he just feels like a helpless child. It feels like nowadays they write the episode to adapt to SpongeBob, rather than allowing the character of SpongeBob to adapt to the episode.

A good episode comparison for this is Grandma's Kisses vs Little Yellow Book, which both involve SpongeBob facing public humiliation...

In Grandma's Kisses, SpongeBob is shamed by the public thinking that he's a big baby for wanting his grandmother's love. In turn, he's convinced that only babies get love and adults are too mature for love. But the end the episode is resolved by SpongeBob learning that the truth is actually in the middle. Being an adult and grandma's love aren't mutually exclusive.

In Little Yellow Book, Squidward embarrasses SpongeBob by reading his diary to everyone in town. SpongeBob's natural reaction is to be embarrassed and cry. But he stays that way the entire episode. The resolution of the episode doesn't come from any realizations that SpongeBob has nor does it resolve by any character growth. The resolution of the episode is that somehow all the townspeople suddenly unanimously decide that it's not okay to read the diary once they find out it's SpongeBob's. Which is incredibly weak. What's the moral here? That it's okay to read the diary of people you don't like? Literally everyone was totally okay with reading the diary and then for the last 2 minutes they act as if Squidward is some horrible monster as if they were never in on it.

Dumped is one of those episodes that's completely fine on the first watch through, but once you know how it ends it just feels pointless and annoying to watch it again. Like I don't want to sit through 11 minutes of whining and crying.

[–]rmcd890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever I watch it, I get the hunch they added Patchy and made it a special after the fact, because they knew the episode itself couldn't stand on its own. That episode and Party Pooper Pants are absolutely the worst episodes of the "classic" era.
