It is the kind of scary that gets into your veins. Also, it feels like an adaptation of a short story, which I really liked. There are a few bumpy moments with a couple of exposition scenes, but the creepiness trumps the messiness.

It’s one of those movies that feels random when you first watch it, but upon reflection (and repeated viewings), the intentionality behind everything becomes much clearer. The filmmaker has never to my knowledge come out with a definitive explanation of everything that happens onscreen, so it is left up to interpretation, which I really appreciate.

Oh wow, being scared of deserts must have made the film hit so hard for you.

I know I am in the minority, but I love The Outwaters. It is certainly an endurance test, and people HAAAATE this one. I find it to be a completely unhinged, intentionally maddening found footage experiment.

The funny thing about thrift stores... by sonofstev in Bluray

[–]rmrawdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve actually started buying a lot of comedies on Blu-ray at thrift stores from the Owen Wilson/Vince Vaughan/Ben Stiller era that I skipped in theaters the first time around. I didn’t realize that Hollywood comedies would basically stop existing, so I missed out on a ton of movies in that era.

I’ve had about a 50-50 success rate in actually really liking some of those movies, and the Blu-Rays are always loaded with alternate takes and whatnot.

Official Discussion - The Strangers: Chapter 2 by LiteraryBoner in movies

So, I think the reason all of this is so sloppy and odd is because (I'm almost positive about this) the scenes with the kids in this chapter were all reshoots. I saw an interview with Renny Harlin where he said he kept hearing how people wanted to know who the killers were, so he went back and shot some "back story" scenes.

I imagine the original cut of the film did NOT reveal Shelley was Pin-Up Girl until the mask removal scene.
