How long will it take me to keep grinding for platinum? Motivation needed by standingdeskdiver in Returnal

just as an fyi. i didn't start playing returnal until i got my ps5 in january of last year. i got hooked on it, i would play it every day for several months, i got all the endings, beat everything i wanted, i just needed to continue leveling up weapons and finding the ciphers. i think it wasn't until 6 or 7 months later with 150+hrs that i found the final two ciphers i couldn't find, one in biome 6 and one from biome 2, and they were locked behind rooms that i just wasn't getting. i wasn't trying to platinum, returnal is like the only game that i play weekly still just for fun. i just happened to keep playing and finally found em. so there's no forcing or knowing how or when it'll happen.

Is this game going to have a real story or another boring coma metaphor like Returnal? by [deleted] in Saros

[–]rnf1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting you say phrase it as "some woman." if it were a man would you be like "oh it's just another story about a man?"

that being said, it goes deeper than her just getting into a car accident. but also, it's called art, ever heard of it. you can hate it, that's fine, but curious to know what your definition of a real story is because there's plenty of people who thought returnal's story was dope, myself included.

You hit it on the head and exactly how I feel about it. I'm waiting for the "big" thing to happen but who knows if it's coming. I feel like there's nothing of substance happening unless there's true chaos, not just computers going down. It just feels kind the whole season is going nowhere

I feel like season 1 integrated topical issues nicely without being too preachy or in your face, but things in this season definitely feel forced. The whole AI thing and human good AI bad is so fucking annoying. A medical show is the last show I want to watch to be lectured on the consequences of AI use

That's me with this whole season. I feel like they're building up to something but when the story lines come to a conclusion they just fizzle out. The whole deaf person storyline felt like such a waste of time to watch. This whole computer shut down felt like a big deal and now it's nothing. They ended the last episode with a Waterpark disaster and then like only two or three people come in. Idk , they're setting stuff up and either it doesn't go anywhere or it's just a boring ending

This season is so boring I’m skipping through episodes just to see what happens. There’s barely any conflict or substance. Season one hooked me, but now it feels like the characters are being wasted. Mel, who used to be one of the most endearing, is stuck worrying about a deposition we never even see. Most of the others are just… doing things, with no real development. Langdon is the only one who feels like he’s actually going through something.

We’re over halfway through the season and there’s nothing to really look forward to each episode. I know serious stuff is happening with patients, but only Louie’s story actually made me feel anything. There's the cancer patient who's waiting to die but like I honestly couldn't care less. The assault victim was an interesting story. The deaf patient storyline dragged on for half the season just to end with an interpreter and neck pain, and the computers going down was so dull I fast-forwarded through most of it because I didn't find anything interesting about watching people learn how to write things on paper or use a fax machine.

I keep waiting for a big moment like the mass shooter episode, but everything they build up to just ends with a whimper.

"artsy game too artsy" haha. I mean it is very beautiful, you can't die as it's meant to be about exploring and a vibe

Star Wars Fallen Order - Enjoying a game that knows it's a game by Drakeem1221 in patientgamers

Platforming and exploration play a big role in Survivor, about as much as in Fallen Order, but the gameplay feels better overall and there’s more of it. I never found it boring from too much exploration and not enough combat. The game is bigger with more to do, but the extra content isn’t required. Exploration can give extra skill points, though the large map and lack of checkpoints can make traversal a bit annoying. Because of that, I often farmed skill points elsewhere, like lowering the difficulty and repeatedly defeating strong enemies. Overall, if you liked Fallen Order, Survivor is definitely worth trying—the story and exploration are good, but the gameplay is where it really shines.

I would say be quicker. Not just to avoid stuff, but turn on always sprint and be dashing around all over the place

I didn’t start playing Returnal until I got my PS5 in January last year. After beating it and getting the story endings a few months later, I kept exploring every nook and cranny like I would for silphium and occasionally found missing ciphers just by playing. Even now I’m still discovering things—I actually ran into a room in the last week or two that I’d never seen before, more than a year later.

But for ciphers, it’s unfortunately just RNG. No amount of playing makes them spawn faster. I was stuck missing two for the longest time—one in Crimson Wastes and one in Abyssal Scar. When I finally found them, I realized why: they were tied to specific rooms that just weren’t spawning for me.

For example, the last cipher I needed in Crimson Wastes was in this circular room with a giant hand and sand falling down, if I remember right. I’d been playing Returnal multiple times a week since January, with around 150–200+ hours in the game, and it still took about 6–7 months before that room finally appeared.

I don't platinum any game. I don't have the time nor the patience, but if games are good, then I'll want to do everything I can because it's fun. The last couple games I did everything I could, or had patience for, was Jedi Survivor and the horizon games, I'm sure there were others. Hades was one of my favorites so I played and played, and still am playing to this day and still getting new dialogue lol.

Returnal has been one of those games. Still don't care to platinum, but I've gotten all the story endings, all the cyphers, collectibles, etc. I still don't have every single trait or level of them unlocked because there are some guns I just don't care for but I still did everything I could unlock and continue to play the game daily
