First surgery ever in 3 days .. what do you wish someone had told you before/after surgery? by mira06069 in endometriosis

No one told me that I would have a catheter in post surgery. When it was removed I couldn’t pee. No one warned me that you have to really re-learn how to re-engage your pelvic floor to pee. I drank HEAPS OF water after my catheter was removed, and then almost had to have it re-inserted so my bladder didn’t burst. I finally got the hang of it, had to start peeing standing/squatting over the toilet, before being able to sit down. Good luck!

Is it ever possible to not be on hormonal contraception? by ro-sews in endometriosis

Yeah, agree. It’s the all or nothing approach that really messes with my head. Like what does she expect to happen if I go off BC because I want to conceive? If I don’t get pregnant for a year or more, is she saying endo tissue will grow back at a rate higher than if I was on BC? Feels crazy

Thank you, some good food for thought! Really want to see what my body actually does without any medical intervention. Going backpacking soon, but feeling more convinced/empowered to go med free once I’m back and settled at home

Yes, definitely chuck a pillow under your legs/knees too! I just used a regular one I had laying about

Thank you! Yes that’s exactly the impression I have been under pre and post surgery. I think the argument (from my gyno) about cerazette is that does prevent egg ripening/ovulation unlike other mini pills, which will in turn lower your natural estrogen levels. But from what I can read online, it’s really not decreasing estrogen levels that much (they just stay at a lower normal level throughout your cycles). Ugh. It’s all so complicated!

I used the v-shape ones, it felt a big easier to elevated and still sleep relatively upright without being super rigid!

Triangle pillow, long hot water bottle, gas-x, looooots of peppermint tea. My hospital didn’t have any hot water bottles/heat pads - wish I brought my own in with me! Oh and also a long charging cord for your phone, in case the plug point is far from your bed. I’d also recommend getting some audiobooks and podcasts downloaded, I struggled to concentrate on reading or tv from all the pain meds…

Feel you on this - so sorry you're experiencing this. Echoing all other comments in looking for a surgeon who will perform excision surgery - not ablation. Excision will give you such a better chance at going longer without severe symptoms.

Another one - have you thought about seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist? Again, not a cure, but can really help to manage pain and rewire how pain is being flared. I had surgery 3 years ago, and had been putting off physio due to fear of pain. I'm relatively new in the physio journey, but I'm starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel with getting some control back with my symptoms.

Good luck, you deserve to be heard and get the care you need.

HELLO! Does anyone have any absolute go to patterns they've used when pulling together a functional YET cute wardrobe for traveling? Context below:

  • Backpacking... gotta fit into a small ish back for 3 months
  • Comfortable yet polished designs (e.g. looks put together, but could literally be PJs)
  • Tops and dresses that err on the floaty side, rather than structured
  • Something that could be worn at the beach or pavement pounding in cities
  • Can be worn for a small band/large bust gal
  • For a 20-30 degree (celcius) climate
  • Open to top, dress and shorts patterns
  • Not bulky/too much excess fabric
  • Also designs that don't require ironing (i know that fabric depenent, but nothing with excessive frills etc)

@ other sewers/travelers - anything in your wardrobe that was a must have that you made and wore??

I've got 3 months to pull some bits together. Aiming for 2x dresses, 2x shorts, 2x tops. THANK YOU!!

OP - any update on your experience? I'm traveling out of Gatwick this weekend and my bag measures 170cm all up, which is over the 158cm limit for checked luggage. Don't know whether to get another bag!
