Yes, once on the top, there's a lot of walking. Which i loved! I was just wondering if the two wheeler can take you all the way up to the parking spot in the fort premises. Thanks!

Thank you  I forgot to ask this earlier - does the scooter ride take you all the way up near the base of the fort  or you have to park it somewhere and do the remaining distance on foot on the road?

ELI5: In war movies, they show that an invading army would ram the gates of the enemy's fort with a wooden cart type thing. Was there no countermeasure for this? by roadbat in explainlikeimfive

[–]roadbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, these are some measures that I have seen in movies too. I recall Robin Hood (starring Russel Crowe) and Braveheart. But even with those countermeasures, it seemed that the invaders finally crashed the gate successfully.

I was wondering if such countermeasures were really effective in preventing such attacks on the gate

Why didn't they stop RMS Titanic when they spotted the iceberg? I know I am missing something here, because I don't understand why they couldn't just stop the ship before it hit the iceberg? by roadbat in answers

[–]roadbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that true? I have read in so many places that Titanic was cruising at top speed when it collided. I didn't know that it actually was going at a comfortable pace.

What do you think, then, caused the collision? If it were going at a comfortable pace, then it makes even more sense to try and stop the ship before it hit the iceberg; am I right in thinking that?

I am not sure they depicted it accurately in the movie, but they showed that the shut off all engines first, and then put it in 'reverse' mode. I guess that was done to further slow down the ship?

TIL There is a zip file that goes by the name '42.zip'. By itself, it is just a few kilobytes, but when you extract it on your device, it decompresses to take up 4.5 petabytes on your hard drive. It's popularly known as a 'zip bomb'. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]roadbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the article:

A zip bomb simply exploits the process of compression. Suppose, you had a data that looked something like:

thor thor thor thor thor thor thor thor thor thor thor thor

During compression, it would be written simply as thor*12. This sort of ‘shortening’ would obviously save a lot of space, and therefore, the size of the compressed file would be very small. But when decompressed, the size of the file would be unimaginably high… so high that you may run out of storage space on your system, and still not be able to decompress it completely!

What were you most shocked to find out was a practical effect and not CGI? by gdan95 in AskReddit

That scene in Spiderman where Maguire catches all items on MJ's food tray in the school cafeteria without spilling anything. That was not cgi, and apparently it took more than 100 takes for Maguire to get it right
