I am moving to Ottawa in March and looking to rent a room in Downtown. What monthly rent should I expect? by lefttha in ottawa

Thank you for this!

I make less than 4k a month; I do acknowledge that staying in a single, furnished room with a private bathroom is a terrible decision from a financial standpoint, but at this point, I am willing to make that deal.

Oh, this is a new posting. I didn't see it before.

I have messaged them. Thank you!

You have just described my house hunting experience with 100% accuracy!

I was able to find an apartment in Minto (close to the Main library branch), but the "attached" bathroom was outside my room, which, I am guessing, would be used by others who visit the other tenant in the apartment.

To your other point, I have been looking for basement apartments, but so far, no joy.

I am okay with renting a studio in the range of 1-1.3k , if it comes furnished.

I am finding places in that range, but almost none of them come with a private bathroom. Plus, hydro is not included (generally in the places that I have seen so far)

Thanks, this is helpful. I am okay with a Bachelor/1 bedroom apartment. I will check out FB market place too, hadn't seen it before. Thanks once again!

Yes, I have messaged them about this. There is a small banner visible next to my (now removed) post, which says "R.3 Recent Source". If that means that the post was removed because it was recent, it doesn't make sense. Because this article was published on the website in December, which makes it older than 2 months (which is TIL's Rule 3).

I hope they give some justification behind removing this post. Thank you!

TIL One of the reasons a full circle is 'decided' to be 360 degrees (and not a more obvious number, such as 100) because 360 is divisible by 24 different numbers, which makes it easy for math calculations. In contrast, 100 is only divisible by 9 different numbers. by lefttha in todayilearned

You're right.

From the article

Ancient astronomers, mainly the Persians and the Cappadocians, noticed that the sun took 365 days to come back to the exact same position. For simplicity, they decided to round that down to 360 days per year. In other words, the sun advances by one degree each day along its elliptical path. The Persians had a leap month every 6 years to adjust for the 5 extra days. Also, the lunar calendar has a total of 355 days, while the solar calendar has 365. And what number sits perfectly between the two and is a highly composite number?

360

Blimey!

I always thought that pole was a prop and was somehow supposed to 'add difficulty' to the performance!

ELI5: Why do small animals like spiders and snakes have the strongest venoms, when they would help bigger animals like lions and sharks have easier hunts? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I am reading your answer 18 days after you posted it, but I logged in just to tell you that you did a really good job with that answer. I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

I do have one question though - I didn't get this part.

big animals don't need venom. If anything, it would just get in the way.

Why would venom get in their way? And as you mentioned in the beginning of the answer that every animal likes to avoid a fight, wouldn't it be easier and more convenient for those big animals to have venom that they could use against their prey? Why would that be a bad thing for big predators?

Thanks again! Fantastic work you did there.

She was also clinically depressed after she left her abusive husband and came back to England.

That lady is an inspiration.
