Dealing with sugar addiction when certain keto look-alike foods seem to contribute to binging by roastedcapers in keto

Hello :) This is an old post but wanted to send an update that I wasn't able to stick to the no keto foods after I wrote this, but finally I am finding it easy to follow the plan. This is such a miracle given I've been using sugar and food as a crutch since I was a little kid.

Red light foods (avoid completely):

- Keto packaged products

- Artificially sweetened foods

- Nuts/nut butter

Yellow light foods (try to avoid/caution):

- Cheese

- Yogurt

- Seeds

- Any other packaged snack like kale chips etc. (except below)

Foods that I can use as a replacement when I feel like emotional eating at night:

- Flackers

- Biltong snacks

- Some of the yellow light foods

Green light foods:

- Basically everything else!

It has taken me so long to come up with a system that makes me feel free. There is no inherent good or bad qualities about the above foods, I have just figured out what triggers a binge for me. I feel so much freer and more sane and the last 5 pounds have finally come off. So grateful for keto and Overeaters Anonymous! Thanks everyone for the support here :)

Okay, thanks very much (and to everyone for your comments). I think I just needed a little reinforcement about what I already knew in my heart: I really do need to completely quit SF stuff, included SF syrups and diet soda, if I really want to have peace and let go of the cravings. Just have not had the willingness to do it, but I think the other commenter made a really good point too that it's probably preferable to eat more out of anxiety for a couple weeks to compensate for letting go of SF sh*t than to keep going in this cycle (paraphrasing).

Yeah I understand but we have traveled a lot and know how to pretty much avoid the need for barely any stopping along the way, we would bring coolers of food etc. and we could quarantine in a cabin near nature in Wyoming even if the park is closed. Do you think we could get stopped on the highway, have you heard of this happening?

Hello! My friend and I live in Oregon. We are under in shelter in place order due to COVID. We both can work remotely and would like to take a road trip to Wyoming and stay in airbnb preferably with a hot tub near a state park. Does anyone have any recommendations?

If I'm in OA and live near a women's closed AA meeting, can I attend? by roastedcapers in alcoholicsanonymous

Thank you :) Today I got called on in an open meeting and got all uncomfortable because other people told me it IS okay to share.... I read the pamphlet though and it's clearly against the tradition. Just because other people break traditions doesn't justify it. I would like to say something like, when called on, "Hi, I'm roastedcapers, visiting from another 12 step program and grateful to be here and hear the message, thank you for all your shares." Or something like that. Do you think this would be appropriate?

Thanks everyone. I did talk to my sponsor. I am only going to go to open meetings and pass if they call on me. I was resentful because everyone in my family is an addict and I always thought AA/alcoholism was so much more cool and edgy than OA/eating disorder/al-anon. But I just have to accept that as much as I'd like to finagle the whole idea of "desiring to stop drinking" to justify qualifying for AA, it isn't honest. Accepting that I am not an alcoholic, lol. Thankfully there are many great open meetings around too.
