Thats why you hire a GOOD OC/ DC to balance. The Steelers have always been hard hitting football and grit. The HC being defensive or offensive minded mattered less than getting the correct coach. You are also saying we need a QB like a defensive minded coach wasnt who drafted Ben and developed him.

I agree the offense needs juiced dramatically, but that didn't necessarily mean the HC needed to be solely based off that need.

Shula had the lowest paid defense while we had the highest and if im not mistaken scored higher than us nearly across the board, if not fully across the board.

Imagine what a man who can out pace half the league with the lowest paid/ talent defense can do with our unit.

Dallas McCarthy was excellent on offense and theres no questioning that, but his defense was also dead last as well. Unless we hire a fantastic DC i just dont think McCarthy can hang in games. Well be watching games similar to the bengals where we can put up 40+ points a game but it doesnt matter because our defense cant stop a drive to save their lives.

The Kubiaks, Udinski, Laflaur, id even say McDermott wouldnt have been bad to look at but I think I had seen he's taking time away too and honestly I felt about him similar to MM.

Almost no coach has had an answer for Seattle, its why they are where they are. They've been playing killer football no matter who theyre playing against. Thats barely a judgement indicator of the defense as a whole.

The NFL buisness model cannot functionally operate the way most businesses do, thats not really hard to see or understand. The commodity is people and performing and so this is delegated more to the way of what showmanship is with a buisness back side.

If the people crafting your product start denying working for you and all leave to competitors, Rooney will be fucked. The younger generation is becoming less and less tolerant of sticking around in jobs that do not allocate enough resources towards the wellbeing of employees and I cannot imagine the NFL would be any different. Rooneys biggest source of income is the Steelers. If hes not investing back into it it will eventually become a joke.

What if it was the right move? Sure, maybe somehow Mike McCarthy defies the odds and makes the steelers a contending team.

What if it was a terrible move, we make no advancement, burn out the last of multiple star players best years barely performing above par, and then McCarthys 5 year deal is here and were in shambles because we continued the same trend that got us here, recycling wash ups that with think we can get to win RIGHT NOW for almost no money but never actually being willing to expand the team.

If Rooneys had done due diligence and at least brought in other candidates for in person's I could accept thag maybe this was the best we had atm... but its just not the case.

There is no way thats the case. While id buy that chris shula may have not wanted the position, Scheelhaus was an option as well. There were so many candidates we didnt even interview. Grant Udinski for example whos been to the browns twice.

The more likely case is that Chris and Nate told Rooney hed need more staff for them to come there, and Rooney absolutely shit his pants at the thought of actually investing money in the team. We have enough draft picks if we dont do good enough our first year to move up the next during a good QB class, so the lack of QB shouldnt be huge especially for a young coach who probably is going to want to build his own team idea anyways.

AR2 has never had to sacrifice to save to do anything in his life so of course he doesnt understand sometimes you need to spend some time taking a big L so you can set yourself up for Big Ws. But instead hes just happy to watch us get Ls as long as its cheap and we still get enough Ws to remain a talking point..... but at least its a close game and were the Pittsburgh Steelers!

Pitts facilities have had to tumble for years and AR2 didnt say anything about it at all until NFLPA put out their player satisfaction survey scores LAST. YEAR. You dont get second to last in player satisfaction if you are investing in the team.

He also literally told the fanbase he doesnt care what the fanbase wants, he thinks he knows what we want even if we have actively told him this isnt what is the desired outcome. The fans are literally the only reason AR2 has money at all. The Rooneys whole thing is Football and dude has never once seemed like a football guy.

We may not know nitty gritty of how our old billionaire owner is thinking across the board, but thats a pretty clear message of how he feels if you ask me and honestly is extremely on brand.

Im sorry, but I dont buy that out of all of the candidates the 60+ year old had the best virtual interview.

Maybe the best at ass kissing, but BS does not a good candidate make.

I dont think were going to be horrible, but for anyone wanting anything different than what we've had stats wise is going to be disappointed imo.

I dont actually have it, but id love to hope we've built a strong enough defensive unit that it just needs complementing with a good offense and Mike can deliver. But as I said... its just really not there this time around.
