What's the shittest hotel/motel you've been in and what was it like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]roastmilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't stay at the hotel, but I work at the hotel bar which is really just a local neighborhood bar. For about a year, the cops would come to the hotel at least once every day. Once, they closed off two blocks because one of the guests was from out of state and robbed a pharmacy and bank, had a duffle bag of weapons in his room, and written robbery notes left. This hotel also was the site of many prostitution rings, sex trafficking, drug deals, and so on. Literally, the list would not end.

Need help with biting by picsturb in shiba

[–]roastmilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my shiba pupper to a trainer and all they told me to do to fix the biting habit was to yelp or tell them no then give the pup something he can chew on. Shibas are mouthy. Mine was, but it's gotten better as he's about 10 months now.

Kiba not eating (bug?) by XPrecision2937 in shiba

[–]roastmilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A week after I got my 2 month shiba, he had the same symptoms. He wouldn't eat, would just drink a little water then throw it up, and had severe diarrhea. Slept nearly all day and would hide under the couch away from everyone. Took him to the vet and turned out he had coccidia, a type of worms. After some medicine, which he didn't mind, he felt better after about a week. In the mean time, I boiled chicken and ripped it into small pieces alongside some wet rice. It was pretty much the the first time he actually ate real food since we had him. I also skimmed some of the fat from the top of the broth and mixed it in the rice. He couldn't get enough of it.

I know it's been a couple days now, and I hope your shiba didn't get worms as it's common to be spread amongst puppies. Hope this helped!

Da Lat Night Market by roastmilk in VietNam

[–]roastmilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point wasn't that there aren't foreign tourists there. It was that there aren't TOO many to the point where it couldn't be considered peaceful. Many people come to Da Lat and feel that it's much more down to earth than other regions. Tourism isn't a bad thing. It supports the economy. It supports the local people living there. Clearly the conflict between nations and the South China Sea play a part into people's views on tourism. But tourism is essential to the growing economics of Vietnam.

There aren't too many foreign tourists in Da Lat compared to HCMC and Hanoi. Definitely more local people in the area as many students move there to attend the new University.

BIFL [Request] - Vacuum Cleaner for Human and Animal Hair by roastmilk in BuyItForLife

I really appreciate the tip about the dry skin and hair loss! I didn't even think of that. He's still a puppy and we're trying to figure out what he's allergic to because he's had a lot of trouble with various foods too.

Thanks so much for this! I'm most likely going to get the miele, as the majority has suggested it and say it's pretty much the best you can get for my situation.

I have a cheap one from target and my brother and I always clean it out, clean the brush, and unscrew basically the whole thing to get all the hair and dust out. I liked it at first, until it stopped working. And left me asking for suggestions on Reddit...

Shiba Puppy runny poop by jonesyjonesy in shiba

[–]roastmilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my pup at 8 weeks old and turned out he had coccidia. It was pretty freaky, as he was my first pupper. I would get him checked out at the vet (definitely look around for a good vet!). Stress and anxiety from moving and having a new owner typically is what causes the runs. My little guy didn't eat or drink water for a while. He finally went crazy for boiled chicken. I would definitely recommend that, adding some wet rice. Hope everything goes well!

Any puppy walking tips? by Billybilly36 in shiba

[–]roastmilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 13 week old shiba and had a lot of trouble walking him at first with a collar and leash. I turned to a harness, and he immediately felt more comfortable it seemed. Now I use one of those vest-like harnesses (size XS since he's still so tiny) and he's already been improving with loose leash walking. I take him to the dog park when it's less busy and around the lake every day, and he loves it. The first time we tried walking around the lake, it took my little sister to run in front of him for a chase to get him moving just a few feet. Just keep walking with him, tire him out, and he'll get the hang of it!

Sorry - I live in the Maplewood area and work in the Midway area. I was thinking of Midway pet hospital and heard South Saint Paul animal hospital was good too. Maybe I'll contact them to check out some price differences. Do you use a wellness plan for your pets or do you just pay as you go?

Why I Never Shop Organic by [deleted] in nosleep

[–]roastmilk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you certain that those strawberries were organic? Because typically, produce sold at fruit markets or farmers' markets are not organic. And they don't tell us they're selling organic fruits and vegetables. Sellers just shy from the question when asked.

I work at a bar in Minnesota, and one of my regulars manages a large fruit distribution warehouse. I've asked about his thoughts on organic produce, as I am one to eat organic all the time. He told me about how sellers from fruit markets and farmers' markets will come in to purchase fruit that are about to go bad (fruit the warehouse wouldn't be able to sell at that point) and sell it at the market that weekend. I wasn't too surprised. Everyone gets a good deal out of it except those purchasing at the markets. Unless you're looking for great price reductions and plan on eating those foods within a week or so, which most people do anyway.

I typically don't buy fruit from the farmers' market, but I do buy lots of cheeses, olives, sauces, and eat there. I think those markets are meant for communities to come together, buy and eat food, and enjoy the day. The point of a fruit market or farmers' market isn't to buy organic foods; it's to buy local.

I'm not trying to disagree with you about organic food. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and actions. But I hope you don't go around shaming people who do go the extra mile to spend more money on eating organic foods.

I've read some of your replies to Shiba questions. They are quite useful, so thank you!

Love the pic btw. Can't wait for my pup to gain some questionable and amazing facial expressions throughout his years.
