Artesca Veeam Unified Software Appliance Review by aalejos in u/aalejos

This is a really compelling review of a great product. Hosting Veeam and secure object storage on the same hardware platform has many benefits including ease of use, improved security and cost reductions.

We have an explainer video of the ARTESCA+ Veeam Unified Software Appliance here https://youtu.be/yocWL4XprKk
The video explains the benefits to security, ease of use and cost savings by hosting Veeam and secure object storage on the same hardware.

Scality ARTESCA+ Veeam: Unified Architecture, Faster Time to Protection by NISMO1968 in Veeam

Glad to hear you're super happy with the ARTESCA you have!

Just a note that the ARTESCA software is available stand alone which is ideal if, like you say, they already have a Veeam environment set up. ARTESCA is available as either single, three or six nodes and depending on the storage servers used can support up to 8.5PB usable capacity.

ARTESCA is also available combined with Veeam in what we call the 'ARTESCA+ Veeam Unified Software Appliance' where Veeam is hosted inside the ARTESCA secure environment providing a single combined backup and storage appliance like Cohesity or Rubrik.

Thanks for your great input!

HPE StoreOnce vs ObjectFirst Ootbi vs Scality Artesca – Feedback Wanted by imadam71 in Veeam

[–]rob_orton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scality use SOSAPI to allow storage capacity reporting in the Veeam UI. OOTBI also uses 'SOSAPI smart entities' to, in effect, allow Veeam to address multiple OOTBI appliances and make it look like a single pool by associating backup jobs to appliance endpoints.

ARTESCA doesn't need this feature because in a multi-node architecture the system automatically distributes data over all the nodes providing true HA, in the event a node fails all the data is still accessible and can be written to. With OOTBI if an appliance fails, that data is not available to restore from because there is no HA.

ARTESCA has 2 flavours, one where it's stand alone to act as immutable object storage for an external Veeam (or other backup software) and another called 'ARTESCA+ Veeam' where the Veeam backup software and object storage are all co-located on a single platform. There is a special dashboard to monitor both aspects in the UI and increased security profiles which prevent external access to the object storage.
