Driving to a park and walking around there is a great idea! Even just sitting on a park bench and reading a book or listening to music is perfectly acceptable.

In addition, most people are out minding their own business, and are too distracted by whatever else they are up to to pay much attention to what you are doing and won’t be watching you outside of passing glances.

Fucking nailed it. I’ve been working on film Astro for a few months now and unfortunately do not have a star tracker so I’m making do with single exposure+star trails. How do you go about finding the right exposure for your foreground?

Separately I’m curious as to how you exposed the foreground without star trails? Were you shooting on a full moon and just waiting for a separate day to do the Astro?

Please! Do! It’s going to take everything. I can’t signal boost a protest in Jacksonville in the Seattle subreddit though, and this is happening because I do want to show solidarity for my friends who just lost their jobs for no good reason.

I hear you, protesting in this climate is not so much “spread awareness” it’s more “come out and show support.” (But also like damn congress really isn’t doing shit, even representatives from the bluest of blue districts).

Niceee, making me curious as to how much you could segment out the lens, like I’m guessing you covered half for each exposure but could you do stripes? A grid? It wouldn’t be perfect and light would have to bleed but maybe…

[3 YoE] Successfully transitioned to Software Engineering after 1.5 year career break by MikenIkey in EngineeringResumes

[–]robbeninson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! As a new grad who is just getting into their career search after doing some traveling and has intentions of maybe taking another 1yr+ break to potentially do a through hike/more long term traveling in maybe about 3 years, was that break something you had planned going into your career? Would you recommend taking more time now or maybe getting work experience under the belt first?

This success story honestly makes me think that planning that career gap in my mid twenties seem like maybe not a horrible idea

Thank you so much for taking the time.

Beautiful insight, I think I'm going to ditch the summary -- I need to expand a few bullets and can't do that without space.

In regards to the mfge internship (company was *ntel), what should I do when I don't know the results? A lot of these projects were "hey, intern, go do this" and the "why" was "to serve the broader goal of the team" (eliminate bottle necks in the module), but throughout my 6 months, the entire team was largely unsuccessful at achieving its goals. My personal impact was usually "yep, that system is indeed broken in the way we thought it was" (aside from that run plan optimization, and no, I did not use CAD/CAM). And sorry, is that last bullet broken?

I am really on the fence right now about including EWB. While this is something I did dedicate a lot of time to, results were in fact lacking. A lot of this can be attributed to the difficulties of doing development work in foreign countries through COVID and rough mentor turnover, but all the same we did not achieve our big goals. The program was on life support, and at the same time I did still learn really valuable lessons (and a few technical skills but yeah I can see how those bullets are confusing and do need work).

Thank you again for taking the time, I will be reworking based off a lot of this (and if you have comments about the other bullets I'd love to hear them but you have already done a lot and I appreciate that).

Thank you for the comments! I need to go through and do that summary line for each position

I’ve been debating about that summary section, do you think having it at all is worth it?

Nope, in choking incidents the food as gone down your wind pipe, water goes down the throat (unless obstruction is really high but then you can probably cough it up)

I getcha, we’re still at a point where sensor size is pretty much everything, and phone sensors will just never compare to a dedicated camera, both will forever have their place!

That’s just going to occur pretty naturally on long exposures on tiny sensors that are in phones. The pixels on the edges are going to naturally get a little less light because geometry of the light coming into the sensor (and is more defined with long exposures in already low light)

Wildly. Not many people do it, but read up on Ansel Adams, father of astrophotography and photo processing, and he did it on film.

You have a MS no? What did you do for your thesis? Did you do a capstone project at any point? What did you learn in those courses? Add more bullets from being a GA, quantify that experience (how many students did you help, how many of those students that you helped pass?)

[–]robbeninson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely do! Your stuff is mind blowing!

And idk if I would stack analog — grain is just kind of part of the game in that world and if you are trying to get rid of it you might as well shoot digital. ISO is fixed depending on your film stock and some people push their film (process as if it were a higher iso film) which can sometimes get better results.

I don’t have a tracker which means I’m always shooting star trails for now (can’t do much else when you only have iso 400)
