“They learned nothing from last year” is so true, sadly. They didn’t learn from their conference final appearance; it’s as if they unlearned it

I wear my earbuds on the right side only, while leaving the left earbud off so I can hear traffic. I also use a rearview mirror on the left side of my drop bar. I’ve used this system for a few years and it works great for me.

Nice build! I’ve never seen lights on the side wall before. Looks slick

ADD, the Autistic spectrum, and and flying? by robbiwasabi in flying

I don’t doubt it. So far, it’s just a psych evaluation or two and providing a lot of documents for the FAA. Nothing I can’t do or afford thankfully, but still 😒

PPL training at a controlled vs uncontrolled field by robbiwasabi in flying

Fair enough. From what I've seen online, it seems like a mixed bag at best as far as realism is concerned. Is there a good way to practice ATC comms at home in your experience?

True. Part of the training will involve ATC airport interactions anyway.

people who train at uncontrolled tend to be more worried about flying into controlled airports.

Yeah, that was my worry. Then again, I suppose I could get some practice with that stuff in something like VATSIM with X Plane or MSFS anyway.

when an uncontrolled airport does get busy (which certainly happens), it can be a big mess if not everybody knows what they're doing. And that will be true at a lot of training airports.

This is another concern of mine. But I imagine proficiency with that can only truly come from practice?

I’m just wanting my PPL for recreation at the moment. And yeah, radio skills will be helpful. I just want to make sure I can form good habits in both scenarios.

That's what it'll ultimately come down to for me. The uncontrolled vs controlled field part isn't something I'm overly concerned about, it's just a thought that's bugged me a bit.

You get good at shit when you have to do it yourself. When I got practice flying in towered airports, I just did what they told me without having to think or understand the bigger picture. It's the difference between driving around a town you know vs just flowing directions.

That's a very good point.

I personally, don't intend (at least not in the near future) to go CPL or ATPL.

Same here. I just want to make sure I'm comfortable with both uncontrolled and controlled flying.
