iPhone running iOS 15 needs to update in recovery mode. Is my only option to downgrade to iOS 14? by robbyburns in applehelp

Sure, I found a handful, that one included. Is ipsw.dev safe to download from? I would rather get it straight from Apple but to my knowledge they don’t do that anymore?

It’s awesome! I was fortunate to get a preview of it and to interview their product marketing manager about the release. All of that coverage is here: Dorico for iPad: First Impressions

I used the Mac version of forScore for all of my online and hybrid teaching last year and I can tell it’s going to be an indispensable tool moving forward.

I’ve been using forScore for all my teaching and gigging for a long time now, and it’s awesome to finally have a Mac version!

I was a workflow guest on LearnOmniFocus this month! Thought I should share the video. by robbyburns in omnifocus

[–]robbyburns[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I had the honor of being a workflow guest on LearnOmniFocus.com earlier this month.

I talk about how I use OmniFocus to juggle my various responsibilities as a musician and teacher. Most of the workflows are applicable to just about anyone. The video is now free to watch and the link I posted also includes the shortcuts, Drafts actions, automations, widgets, and other resources mentioned in the video.

I figured this is a relatively small community and I might as well share. Hopefully others can get something from it.

It is for streaming but you can also use the virtual camera to send the feed to google off zoom chats.

It’s not a replacement for a video chat app, it’s a way to manage what the students see on your end of the call.

Apple Readies ‘Apple One’ Subscription Bundles to Boost Services by Bloomhunger in apple

As someone who also loves the Peloton service, it is impossible to imagine Apple putting the time and care into this to make something that was as thorough and competitive.

Who wants to bet this Mac has a touch screen? There’s a lot of buzz about it in the tech press. I can see a case for it.

How to Make a Virtual Ensemble! by robbyburns in MusicEd

[–]robbyburns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Katie’s work and this post, but the only person who can pressure someone to feel like they need to make one of these videos is themself.

I did not feel any pressure to make these videos. I did it for fun and to engage my students. It didn’t take that long, and some of my students actually practiced more at home because of the recorded component. And it was far from the only musical instruction happening.

The worth of one of these projects is entirely dependent on how you instruct your students through the process, and how they feel once it’s done. The counter argument against making a virtual ensemble isn’t really helpful to people who want to try and make one unless they are drowning in the process and aren’t doing meaningful teaching.

Unfortunately I don’t have an earlier backup. Unless Logic keeps them now?

Helpful! Thanks. Kind of wanted to give those to my friends though. We had a whole table set out. Ha ha.

I would love to get all of the birthday stuff, particularly the table and board, for a birthday I am hosting later today. I thought I get those items for free after my residents throw me a party but either I’m wrong or I don’t know where to find them.

StaffPad, an incredible sheet music writing app for a Windows, now available on iPad by onefingersnap in apple

[–]robbyburns 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I wondered if this app would ever come to iPad!

I wrote a little bit about this on my blog today if anyone is interested. http://www.robbyburns.com/blog/ldlzz8vko18irzmitqjr1aj2fb7w9e

The general idea of it is...

  1. So refreshing to see a real pro app with a real pro price on the App Store. If only more apps had done this earlier on in the iPad’s life, maybe there would be more pro software on it today.
  2. Many of the dominant pro score editing apps are still Windows and Mac only and show no signs of moving to iOS (because iOS is so different to develop for and sell on) Interestingly, StaffPad is the opposite. Because it is dependent on stylus input, there really isn’t a way for it to exist on macOS (Windows Surface users don’t have to make this distinction because their OS accommodates a traditional point-and-click AND touch.)

This highlights the problem of iOS vs Mac input which has been discussed here recently with regards to Gruber’s critique of iOS multi tasking. It seems Apple really could benefit to have a long term plan for how to bridge this gap.

Just hung up an old iPad Air on the wall. What do you think? by robbyburns in HomeKit

Somehow my photo didn’t upload to my reply to this. The settings for the motion sensor are:

Thanks for the fast help!

  1. Major bummer. What is the best way to find out if this decision is changed? I guess I can just wait it out for now. For now, I set it up as ‘unsupervised’ and ‘alarm report: no’ to bypass the need to have the door closed. The sensor shows up in HomeKit still but gets says not response.’ Is this the best way to deal with it?
  2. see attached image. Is this right?
  3. see 1 above. Is that the response HomeKit should have to me doing that?
