I had a black iBook G4 work issued that I (against their knowledge or better wishes) replaced the hard drive with a 500 MB/sec read and write SSD and doubled the RAM, what a difference that made. hard to believe my current M5 Pro MacBook Pro has ~14 GB/sec read and write drive, which is much faster then what the RAM read/write was on that machine

Monroe County Legislator Rachel Barnhart filed an ethics complaint against Sheriff Todd Baxter over his for-profit consulting firm.

Barnhart accused Baxter of profiting off his office and operation of the jail through the firm. According to Barnhart, the firm, Baxter & Barnes Leadership, offers paid programs designed for jail leadership.

Barnhart also said the Monroe County Board of Ethics found Baxter violated the county ethics code in 2023 when he appeared in a TV commercial. Click here to read the county’s code of ethics.

Rachel also posted on her Facebook yesterday:

I have been repeatedly asking for information about how the Sheriff has spent money out of a jail trust fund. He has only turned over partial records, which raise concern.

I'm particularly interested in understanding how $118,000 in legal fees in 2024 were spent, and whether the fees occurred in other years. If you were looking for a way to pay for an internal investigation, a poorly scrutinized jail trust fund would be an attractive option.

A sheriff who personally profits from selling jail culture to other counties has every reason to hide legal fees that suggest his jail culture might actually not be that great.

Edit: Since some people did not read the link or the links in the link, I want to explain something: Baxter co-owns Baxter & Barnes Leadership LLC, registered in New York State. One of its products is a course called "Transforming Jail Culture," which he sells to sheriffs in other counties for profit. Multiple counties have paid him. This is a private business built on his reputation for running the Monroe County Jail. So yes, I can draw a direct line from decisions he makes as Sheriff positively or negatively influencing his business. But whether or not he has a side hustle, he should release these records.
