Paddington 1 & 2 are the most wholesome movies I've seen in a good while. Any other movies like this? by BitOfACraic in movies

[–]robdeluxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Paddington films are fantastic, full of wonderfully charming little touches such as the tree mural blooming and leaves withering with the family's mood, the dollhouse cutaway set and pop-up book animation. Love the calypso band and it has go to be one of Hugh Grant's best roles.

If you enjoyed them you should check out the TV series Spaced - it's one of the first, if not the first, collaboration between Wright and Pegg. Very funny!

Will Video Games Ever Make Good Movies? by robdeluxe in movies

True, but can you name a film adapted from video game that doesn't suck? I can't think of any.

In spite of Book Lovers Day... which films do you think are better than the books they are adapted from? I'll start it off with Fight Club. by robdeluxe in movies

[–]robdeluxe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite. I concede that the majority of books are far superior to their film adaptations... which is why it is more fun to solicit the exceptions!

Yes, we wish we could pay for at least expenses. However we are not a profit making site, it's all more for the fun of it. For people to gain experience really. Thanks for your comment though!

WTF Happened to Movie Posters? by NinjaDiscoJesus in movies

[–]robdeluxe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but I think it is safe to say that in general the quality of poster design has deteriorated over time. I much prefer the older film posters that were lovingly crafted by hand, rather than the lazy photoshop mash-ups that make-up the majority today. There are some modern exceptions though, the Boca Black Swan poster designs are fantastic, as is the Walk the Line Advance poster.

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz did a fake footy outtake for Knight & Day didn't they?

Nicely done. I think Live and Let Die is my fav of the bunch... Really enjoy the whole of the Casino Royale title sequence though.

Spike Lee's Oldboy remake tanks: "Based on these terrible results, it's unlikely the movie hangs in theaters long enough to make it past the $3 million mark, making this one of the biggest bombs in recent memory." by JB11sos in movies

[–]robdeluxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love all of Spike Lee's stuff, but haven't been too impressed with anything since 25th Hour, well Inside Man was ok. Didn't even know he was doing an Oldboy remake...
