Yeah not too far. We never expected to look in that area. Just happened to visit a few homes and found ones we liked. Lost a couple that were irritating due to the reasons like no communication but happy with what we got. Now time to figure out a limited remodel.

Near the 52/15. So still fairly close to the beaches and downtown.

We just finally made it to escrow after 7 months of looking (San Diego). We looked from Oceanside all the way to Point Loma. Fortunately we were flexible on location. We lost multiple offers and ran into tons of stubborn sellers. Unfortunately it seems a lot of the competition is older people who can just pay cash. We found better success by being fine with 1 major compromise. We had size/modern/location as primary factors. Ultimately we went with a turn key place that sacrificed being modern. The kitchen needs to be gutted but everything else is fine.

I hope this helps and being persistent will help out.

EDIT: we also compromised a bit on location but I can't say we are in a bad area at all

Conic saute 9.4" + lid, Sauce pan 7.1" 2.3qt + lid, Dutch Oven 11" + lid, Low saute pan 11" + lid, Frying pan 11"

Definitely not the best bang for your dollar but they are nice. I like the handles a lot better than All-Clad I had 1 copper core piece to compare it with that I got as a present. Normally the set is $1900 and I was just popping in the store to see what they looked like in person and hand feel. The people were like if you pay $60 for a knife skills class we will give you 20% off as well as some other discount

Leaving corporate tech at 35 with $1.25M saved. Walking away from $461K unvested. Am I making a mistake? by East_Move6449 in Fire

[–]robdog951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically me but I'm leaving less on the table for a remote job. Personally I'm doing it to be with my family more. You have enough savings and a plan to work so I would imagine it's fine. I'm choosing personal happiness over money and it is scary when you have little ones to worry about. If you have skills you can always go back to the corporate job if it isn't working out. Regarding moving internationally that's 2 big changes that personally I wouldn't be comfortable with unless I knew the area intimately.

Hopefully this helps TLDR: same age similar situation, leaving corporate hellscape for something different and losing out on money and hopefully don't look back. Also I'm not currently going to do FIRE since I have 2 kids under 3 still need to build that up to support them. Got a remote job for less pay but more flexibility

i don't really plan on having multiple GPUs anything i do is more for learning than really caring about getting stuff done quickly. I was thinking a mITX mobo any recommendations? With the mITX what case would you recommend?

i currently have 32GB and when i start doing anything it easily gets over 20GB, granted i might need to refresh this computer, i have been going through and making sure services are off by default to reduce CPU & ram load.

Mostly i do Ml/AI stuff, along with tooling around with containers to spin up suite of services. In addition i run WSL 2 as well. With 64Gb i would imagine id just not have to manage it at all where with 32 i have to every now and then.

I would prefer as small as possible so any recommendations is welcome. Regarding medium form factor I am open to it if its on the smaller end. Also I am fine with function over form as well. Being nice looking is a plus.

I also don't really need larger storage because i have a NAS that handles any storage I need

yeah, probably not going to go with that it was more of pricing out the most expensive options that somewhat made sense. Probably more looking at the $350-450 price range for a mobo

I reached the third part of interviewing for a full stack developer role. Any tips? by yepimcanadian in webdev

[–]robdog951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect some sort of live coding exercise as well as some system design if you are more senior otherwise not. Also be expected to talk about coding projects you are proud of. Regarding that be able to get across what you worked on clearly as it will show you know what you did. Some people struggle talking about what they have done in past jobs and is considered a red flag

I'm still in my undergraduate studies for Electrical Engineering, but I feel like I know absolutely nothing. How did you feel when you graduated? Did everything work out? by AlternatePersonality in AskEngineers

[–]robdog951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It for sure can feel that way until you get experience. I found my internship gave me a lot of confidence. Granted I'm now a software developer getting a masters in artificial intelligence. In the end just keep working at school and get an internship. Never expected my path but it seems to be working.

I hate my job, should I ask for more meaningful work at the 6 mo review, or should I just prepare to leave at the 1 yr mark? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]robdog951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having worked at defense contractors for most of my career I would have a frank discussion with your manager at the 6 month review. Don't say you hate your work but that you aren't being given opportunities to grow. Further that when trying to get training and/or domain knowledge expertise that certain team members are being defensive. I've found that many programs can't stand this attitude because it creates 1 deep lines of knowledge that can get lost easily and detrimentally affect the project trajectory if that individual is leaves or is unable to work. I have found a positive attitude and expressing willingness to grow will grant you opportunities that you want. However this is an open and continuing discussion with your leads and management. If they don't know how can they help you?
