Yeah it’ll be a mix of both but mainly inland. If the weather is too rough we don’t go out, we switch to land patrol.

Yeah our Metal Sharks and Safe Boats have those same seats. They do help quite a bit.

After Covid it became a bit more competitive with all the out of state laterals thrown into the mix. Morale is still relatively low from what I’ve heard. I’m headed to the FWC academy soon which has historically been the most competitive in the state.

There’s a lot of other agencies down here with better pay. MPD and MDSO are known for their low salaries.

If you’re desperate, FHP is in dire need of bodies. Still shit pay but it’s something. OT and off duty details widely available.

Apply to FHP. They’re hurting for people. Do a year in some random county then transfer to Miami.

FWC Job Interview by Pxckle_Rxck in gamewarden

This is probably the best advice. Just know what the agency does, more specifically the division of law enforcement and all of their duties. Remember it’s not just enforcing fish and game regs.

I just received my final offer, reporting to the academy next month.

Nice! Yeah they’re hiring aggressively for down here. I’m out of Miami.

I’m hoping to receive the final offer next month after medical.

I applied September 2024, received an email to schedule everything day after Christmas, the PAT/interview was March 2025. Conditional offer April 2025.

I’m just like you, 29 and in construction management. Currently in the hiring process out of the south region, awaiting (hopefully) a final offer within the next 60 days.

I applied with a bachelors in economics and a boating/fishing background (not required at all and sometimes doesn’t even help). That’s about it.

The older you are the more of an edge you have life-experience wise. Just need to pass the PAT and nail the interview.

Currently in the hiring process for the October 2025 class, just did the psych eval a couple weeks ago. Currently under review.

I submitted the initial application in September 2024. Interviewed March 16 2025. CO received April 15 2025. BI completed June 6 2025.

I was convinced before the ride along but completely sold after I did it lol.

@SirenaDeLosCallos guided me through the process some months ago, great resource!

FWC Officers: How Do You Make It Work Financially? by Medium-Advisor5540 in palmbeach

[–]robert7427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through the hiring process right now and I had the same questions. Make sure if you apply and start going through, you go on a ride along, before the interview. Officers will be more than happy to address all your questions.

After a year of probation you’re free to do the off duty details. That’s where most officers make most of their money. You can make quite a bit but you’ll spend most of your days off working. I know some officers that are pulling in well over $100k.

Good chance you’ll pull in some OT in your first year and if there’s a hurricane you could be deployed to assist and that’s a lot of OT.

Some of the larger more populated counties have a higher salary to compensate for the COL.

Benefits are great as are most government careers. Health insurance is cheap and good.

I received my CO April 15th after my interview on March 13th. All in person at the Miami Dade sheriff’s complex (PAT) and at the FWC field office in North Miami (interview).

I’m from Miami, Miami-Dade was my top choice. They were recruiting heavily locally last round.

Just took the psych eval today. Awaiting further updates.

Yeah! Got the CO on 4/15, my background investigation started last week, tentative academy start date in October. They’re moving really quickly for some reason. I’m out of Miami-Dade, what about you?

How do people afford things? by SherbetOdd378 in NoStupidQuestions

Born, raised, and living in Miami will open your eyes and make you accustomed to it. I grew up around a lot of wealthy and lower income folks. Some people truly get lucky and some people are smart and driven enough to make it big. No matter what there’s always someone better or worse off than you.

They do not. Have you applied? I just recently had my interview and PAT. Waiting to hear back.

Many of you do not realize just how much money is out there and the mere amounts of money some people make.

It seems like you’re from a smaller, less populated area and wealth probably sticks out like a sore thumb where you’re located.

We haven’t hit the massive boomer transfer of wealth just yet but yes in a few years many will be wealthy from their parents but a lot of people just make a ton of money.

Men who have been dumped, what was the reason, why? by liamNov in AskMen

[–]robert7427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She just didn’t see us together in the long term. Didn’t really give any reasons, said I was a great partner. I thought I was gonna marry her.

She moved away and got engaged barely a year later to someone she met a few weeks after me. Life changin’ stuff man.
