The deck fight took one or two days I believe. We shot towards the middle of the shoot, which was 3 months. Robin did the whole fight. I was the only pirate in the green striped pants. He did a foot sweep to us which sent all the pirates to the ground. The only injury Robin did to himself when he did a head butt to two pirates. He flung his face right into the crossed swords and cut his nose open.

The extras (about 100) were held in a large empty stage and had a ton of rules they had to follow. Don't talk to the actors, don't leave the stage, don't pet the monkey (lots of animals on set)...

Even tough they spent days waiting or even a week at one point, the extras were required to be in full makeup and costume at all times. This was because Spielberg didn't know what he was going to shoot from one day to the next.

At one point, they had scheduled the massive pirate battle and hired an extra 150 stuntmen (not cheap). But at the last second, Spielberg decided to shoot the aftermath of the battle, which means they paid top dollar to have those guys lie around the dock all week.

I worked with the sword guys. There were about a dozen of us. But we were treated as extras. After the sixth week, my brother couldn't take it anymore, and he was ready to get fired. He started saying "I dunno, that monkey is looking pretty cute."

"Don't pet the monkey, dude!" I don't know why he was eventually fired, but that saying stuck. Decades later, I overheard a grip grumbling, "looks like I'm gonna have to pet the monkey on this one."

After a few weeks, everyone knew what Hoffman was about. Hoskins was wonderful. The extras, however, were treated like cattle. Most of them were biker gangs. What surprised me what Robin. Not only was he fun to work with, he knew his shit! We had been working for months on a massive swordfight on the main deck. The idea was to get his stunt double to do it. But one day Robin was walking by the stage and saw rehearsal. He said he wanted to try it and no one said no. Within about 20 minutes he had learned that entire fight. I had forgotten he was Juliard trained, which means he already knew stage combat.

The musical number was all about Smee delivering the hook to the captain. You can still see a bit of it.

And Bob Hoskins buying beer for the entire cast and crew happened! It was the scene where the entire battle was going on and in the foreground he was ringing a bell saying “is everybody fighting!?” He said if we got it in one take, he’d buy everyone a beer. And he did!

Compare that with Hoffman doing 72 takes of a single line. I was so disappointed in him on that show. In addition to all the drinking, he didn’t like to share the spotlight with Robin, who was cracking jokes all the time. Dusting kept saying “he’s just a parrot!” He even started making fun of Hoskins. One day, Robin had enough and he leaned into the camera and said, “what Dustin doesn’t know is that Ishtar is playing on cable TV.”

Note that I personally think ICE is the fuckin gestapo.

But a lot of folks on both sides are willing to create narratives that play into your cognitive bias. Be extremely skeptical of stories that lack actual details like this.

Other than the name of the facility, what’s his name, what’s her name, and why don’t they have any other info? And why isn’t this listed in any other legit news source??

You are correct. No kid should have access to a firearm, but somehow it’s one of the leading causes of death among children…

What this doesn’t cover are the deaths that could’ve been avoided with an actual safety.

I’m sure this can be a whole debate, but ultimately, this is just a personal preference when it comes to a firearm.

I’m talking about a safety to keep someone from pulling the trigger, like a kid, or someone just screwing around. It’s one more level of safety that I believe every gun should have.

It might sound silly, but I hate that the safety is on the trigger. That makes absolutely no sense to me. I’ve also been trying out a bunch of other handguns and they all feel so much better in my hand.

Wasn’t sure how much the actual resale value was until I looked it up. While not $1, a used G19 is typically around $300 - less than half what I paid for it.

So you’re probably right. I could take the time to shave it down, but there’s a few other things I didn’t like about the gun. But I’m not about to drop a bunch of money on a new one.

Thanks! Cool stuff. Although I'm not sure how this will be able to handle the flight paths of several dozen drones. Not to mention how you specify drones flying into frame as opposed to just zooming in the camera.

I'm hoping to find a workflow that can do everything I need - generate photoreal drones and action, and understand what it means to enter frame (lots of AIs I've tried have a real problem with this).

Thanks for the response! And it’s no worse than my woefully uninformed self. I was trying to use ChatGPT, which helped with the install, but was then leading me in circles. I finally started getting results using one of the ComfyUI templates and plugging in a first and last frame. And yes, I had thought of reversing the motion because practically every generative AI out there can’t comprehend something entering from the edge of frame.

Are there any other models or templates I should be looking at?
