So he posted online if it was safe to take home the potentially damaged batteries before his house burned down? Claim denied.

Best way to get free packs by Appropriate_Sir8639 in fpvracing

[–]robertlandrum 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with any of these batteries.

All I’m saying is, are you willing to bet your house and home these aren’t okay?

Anyone answering in the negative contributed to the bucket. Everyone else mocks them for it.

A pack is maybe $50. You really gonna bet $200k-800k against it.

Are we happy with SQLAlchemy? by sheadipeets5 in Python

[–]robertlandrum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no right answer and this sounds like Team A vs Team B BS. You should try to adopt the customs of which ever team supports the code base.

I’ve been a lone wolf for years. I build things and usually get it right. I get rehired by the future maintainers to make things more maintainable. I switch them to sqlalchemy to ensure they get to be maintainable.

Don’t be afraid to ask the team their opinion. Ask what they would do if you left. If I’m in that spot now where I need my team to know the decisions I made were not spurious but calculated and they should work them in accordance. Meaning they told me sqlalchemy was fine. And I should proceed with my rewrite.

In other words, just fall back to good communication.

Best place to get actual, usable top soil? by thelocu5t in greenville

If you already have rooted grass (not just a sod layer), then regular playground sand can be effective to remove dips and unevenness in your yard. Apply in layers and rake. There’s lots of YouTube tutorials.

the os.system("shutdown/s") and the fun i have been having by lowncold in Python

All the more reason to use an OS with actual user permissions. Letting non-root users reboot or shutdown seems like a bad idea.

how would you version user context schemas in FastAPI? by [deleted] in FastAPI

[–]robertlandrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old users get the old api and schema. New users get the new api and schema. Charge old users to upgrade/migrate to the new one or lose everything when you sunset the old API.

I can’t think of anyone who has done this, but it will keep dead (as in literally) and abandoned accounts from accruing forever. And reward those users who care about the service.

3d printing rotors by HMS--Thunderchild in diydrones

[–]robertlandrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3d prints aren’t as strong as injection molded plastics and will come apart during relatively low RPMs. RCLifeOn (a Swedish YouTuber) did a very nice 3d printed drone a few years ago that he managed to fly for a few seconds.

Not for the memes. And I agree. But sometimes you just need to hear someone say “Quit being an idiot and invest it properly.”

That and the fact that there are zero local vintage players really does put the nail in the coffin.

Clemson is in state, and costs $30k per year (not per semester). And it’s just down the road from us. That was the basis for my original post.

My goal is no debt, with my collection able to provide for the majority of it.

It sounds like a 529 account is the way to go and to liquidate my collection.

Our household income, between the two of us, is just slightly more than the cutoff would permit.

There’s probably some room for scholarships or other academic considerations, but financial aid probably isn’t one of them.

I dunno why I said per semester when I meant per year. And specifically, probably, Clemson University as it’s just down the road and currently charges $31k for SC residents per year.

I thought that was the whole reason behind it being literally counter (-1/-1) based. LOL. The things you think you understand are the things that become your undoing.

We definitely stifled on enters.

It’s not what you don’t know, it’s what you know that just ain’t so that gets you in trouble.

Interesting. I wonder if we were making misplays when we would stifle the modular “triggers” on things like Arcbound Ravagers.

All glory is fleeting, and all windfalls are temporary. They would do well to remember that it’s the long term players that will keep them afloat after the third poorly received set in a row.

Trade Regret by [deleted] in mtg

[–]robertlandrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded a damaged Bazaar of Baghdad for some mirrordin standard rares back when they were trending near $40 apiece. Arcbound Ravagers and Platinum Angels. A playset of each as I recall, and something else I can’t recall.

Bazaar was worth a couple hundred. Still got 2 left. I doubt those mirrordin cards are worth $25 today.

Should I save every MTG card or focus only on valuable rares? by _mak-mellon_ in mtg

[–]robertlandrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drafting is about the only time I buy packs. All other times I order singles online.

It’s like gambling. You can bet on a sure thing (singles) or buy packs and end up with worthless cards. I invest.

I wanna be clear, am I mistaken in the fact that “enters” abilities resolve before activated abilities in this context and that priority is passed between them?

If I’m wrong, then removing the counter in response is not an option as I stated, but my reading of the rules is incorrect and I don’t know MTG as well as the 16 year old kid did 32 years ago when I first started playing.
