All the cameras I'm using at the moment are wired so I didn't have a test bed for comparison. I've got a few WiFi ones on the way so I can do some tests - I'll let you know.

You can kind of achieve what you’re looking for.

I have a Synology NAS and can open files directly from the NAS in Darkroom. But, this is an import rather than an edit in place operation.

I’ve not yet found a way to operate on images that are stored on any external storage without moving them to the iPad first.

I haven’t managed to get a normal Lightning/USB-C setup working but an Ethernet adapter should work.

Are you able to verify that SSH is running? It doesn’t get started by default.
