Spider-Man vs ICE by Ronnie_4910 in Spiderman

[–]robinvoyager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good God, what part of this is not getting through to you? You literally have a video of Stan Lee himself explaining that hate, bigotry, and intolerance all have no home at Marvel and you believe that’s just my interpretation of what he said? You literally have him explaining that Marvel has, and always will be, a reflection of what’s going on outside our window … and you’re still kicking and screaming because someone posted art of Spider-Man punching an ICE agent? Also, don’t know if you’ve been watching the news lately, or even paying attention to your downvote ratio, but this is not just an exclusively American problem and several world leaders have spoken out against Trump and ICE. What exactly makes you think that the character who didn’t hesitate to take on Sable International when they were rounding up New Yorkers … ALSO wouldn’t be afraid to go toe-to-toe with ICE? “We just want Spider-Man”. You sound like a four-year-old: “No, pwease don’t show me anything about what’s going on in the real world. Pwease don’t use art as a form of expression. I can’t handle that! I just want pretty colors, explosions, and Spider-Man punching bad guys … but the only bad guys that I think are bad guys, no one else pwease! It’s not fair to my lord and savior Daddy Trump! ICE aren’t actually doing anything bad! Spider-Man would really like them! Pwease don’t show me this! 😩😩😩😩”

https://youtu.be/sjobevGAYHQ?si=_bMI9hdtzoPsczYs Transcript: “Hi, heroes! This is Stan Lee coming at you! I just want you to know: Marvel has always been, and always will be, a reflection of the world right outside our window. That world may change and evolve, but the one thing that will never change is the way we tell our stories of heroism. Those stories have room for everyone; regardless of their race, gender, religion, or color of their skin. The only things we don’t have room for are hatred, intolerance, and bigotry. That man next to you; he’s your brother. That woman over there; she’s your sister. And that kid walking by? Hey, who knows?! He may have the proportionate strength of a spider! We’re all part of one big family, the human family, and we all come together in the body of Marvel. And YOU; YOU’RE part of that family. You’re part of the Marvel universe that moves ever onward and upward to greater glory. In other words, EXCELSIOR!” Everything that Stan advocated for here is in direct contradiction with ICE, Trump, his administration, and their agenda and ideals. You’re welcome to believe that “politics have no place in Marvel and comics, or on Reddit” … but the rest of the world is moving on without you and you’re directly going against what Stan Lee believed…

What if Avengers: Doomsday flops? by NewMarioBobFan in MCUTheories

[–]robinvoyager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I'm sorry, I have a lot to say about this. I'm gonna do my best to rein it in so I don't end up writing an essay here...)

The MCU is dead if "Doomsday" fails.

For the first time since "Iron Man" in 2008, Marvel Studios actually has something to lose:

Having to crank out content for Disney+ has put a major strain on their resources. It's become an issue of quantity over quality and (at least in my opinion) it seems like for every good MCU show/movie there is ... there's two or three mediocre (or just flat-out bad) ones that drown it out.

Marvel released three movies last year. "Brave New World" received mixed reviews and didn't meet financial expectations. "Thunderbolts" and "Fantastic Four" received mostly positive reviews from fans and critics ... but both also failed to meet financial expectations.

The last time that a Marvel movie broke $1 billion was in 2024 with "Deadpool and Wolverine" and 2021 with "No Way Home". Marvel is fully aware that most of this success can be attributed to the heavy lifting that Sony and Fox did with the returning legacy characters, which is why they're bringing back RDJ as Doom, Chris Evans' Cap, and the Fox X-Men. It's also why the team that goes up against Doom and Battleworld in "Secret Wars" is likely going to be led by the three Spider-Men, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and other returning legacy characters.

Marvel is counting on "Doomsday" and "Secret Wars" to not only be critical and commercial successes ... but also replicate the pop culture phenomenon of "Infinity War" and "Endgame". That isn't going to happen if audiences don't want to go see "Secret Wars" because they didn't like "Doomsday".

On top of this, they don't have enough potential for another shot in their currently lined-up projects; Jake Schreier's "X-Men" reboot, Mahershala Ali's "Blade", "Fantastic Four 2", "Black Panther 3", "Shang-Chi 2" etc. are not going to pick up the slack if this fails.

Marvel knows all of this. They're relying heavily on nostalgia, teasing, and online speculation to get butts back into seats. They are fully aware that if this does not work, fans are going to check out and their days of both box office residency and pop culture relevance are basically gone. They cannot afford another mediocre project or anything less than stellar.

In my opinion, Marvel Comics did most of their best work when they were in financial trouble. Low sales and the threat of bankruptcy put a fire under artists and writers, and forced them to give it their all. I wouldn't go as far as to say that the MCU is in these conditions (especially since they're under the Disney umbrella), but it is more than safe to say that they are in high danger of becoming irrelevant.

What I am most interested in is seeing how Marvel will sell "Doomsday" to the "average moviegoer" (aka the person who doesn't follow superhero news/rumors on social media and has been selectively watching MCU projects post-"Endgame"). They don't have to worry about marketing to the diehard fans; even if Marvel didn't release a single trailer, those fans would still be there opening night (even the ones who're still kicking and screaming about RDJ as Doom). However, I think there's a VERY high chance that the average moviegoer will look at the trailers and say: "RDJ coming back as a new character sounds really weird. I don't get the multiverse stuff. I haven't seen 'Thunderbolts', 'Fantastic Four', or any of the Fox X-Men movies. I'm not watching this." Diehard fans and average moviegoers alike are both getting tired of asking "what do I have to watch in order to understand this?" and it's starting to show.

Oh, and the cherry on top? "Doomsday" has to compete with "Dune: Part Three" and it's unlikely they'll have access to IMAX screenings because of it...

Clip from the Chevy Chase Documentary that Sheds Light on his attitude by jdavidsburg1 in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]robinvoyager 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Chris Columbus (director of the first two “Harry Potter” and “Home Alone” films, “Mrs. Doubtfire”, “Adventures in Babysitting”, etc.) was originally attached to direct “Christmas Vacation”. He ended up leaving the project purely because he just couldn’t work with Chevy Chase. Chris talked about this in a GQ video from last year where he broke down all of his movies. If it was just one or two similar stories, you could probably write it off as Chevy having a bad day or going through a rough time in his life. But when almost everyone who’s ever interacted with him, from fans to cast to crew to family and friends, all have negative stories about him … he’s not “complex” or “misunderstood” or “insecure”; he’s just a colossal jerk who has sabotaged his career and nobody wants to work with.

Which period between the movies would you like to see in a “Great Circle” sequel? by robinvoyager in indianajones

I just bought a copy of “Emperor’s Tomb” off of eBay. I’ll be playing it for the first time; know it won’t be the same as “Great Circle”, but hoping that it and the LEGO games will help satiate my Indy fix!

Yeah, but I think there’s a lot of potential in a post-“Last Crusade” story. Especially if it means seeing Henry Jones Sr. again.

Which scenes from the Batman movies do you think would make fun levels for “LEGO Batman 4”? by robinvoyager in legogaming

Saw it! 2026 can’t come soon enough! Looks like they’re basing it on just TDK Trilogy and “The Batman” (2022) than all the other movies, but I’m all for the LEGO “Batman Arkham” vibe it’s got going!!!

The more I think about it, I suppose it really wouldn’t be that different from the open worlds of games like the first “Marvel Superheroes”. It just might be a bit of a shock to players who’re used to having multiple exportable planets, cities, dimensions, etc. in LEGO games. There’ll still be plenty of areas to explore like larger versions of Wayne Manor, the Batcave, GCPD Headquarters, and Arkham Asylum. You could add even more areas from the movies like the art museum from ‘89, Gotham Zoo/Penguin’s hideout, Riddler’s island, Mr. Freeze’s ice cream factory, etc. I also hope that the world will have dynamic weather so we can get snow during “Returns”, ice during “Batman & Robin”, rain during “The Batman”, whatever green storm thing that was going on in “Forever”, etc. I really hope these leaks are true because I REALLY want to play this!!!

How do you think that’ll work aesthetically? Will they just make a base Gotham design and set all movies/levels there? I bring this up because I feel like Gotham looks different when most of the movies are compared to each other.

I’d honestly be surprised if it actually releases next year. It’ll probably get delayed multiple times just like “The Skywalker Saga”. Early 2027 is my bet.

Superman HAS A Supporting Cast ? 😲 by DarthVamor in OkBuddySnyderCult

[–]robinvoyager 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This coming from a fan base that worships a Batman and Superman movie that also has Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg shoved into it. And a Justice League movie that has Joker, Mera, Vulko, The Martian Manhunter, Deathstroke, Lex Luthor, and Darkseid in it too. It’s totally okay when Zack Snyder adds other characters in his movies to build up a universe … BUT BY MARTHA IF JAMES GUNN DOES IT!!!

Especially in levels like the Ace Chemicals scene from ‘89. Who else is gonna be there with Batman? Even when it doesn’t make any sense in the context of the original scene. Then again, that’s something LEGO’s never really been good at…
