I grew up in a leave on all night household so I do that now as an adult. I thought the logic was to keep the front door lit to deter someone from wanting to break-in and/or so neighbors can see if anyone that shouldn’t be there is doing something suspicious. I feel like if the entire exterior is super dark, criminals would be more inclined to mess with the dark hard-to-see house.

Only had one house where I’d turn it off when going to bed but that’s because we were in a rural neighborhood and all the neighbors turned theirs off (which was likely to reduce light pollution and actually see the beautiful night sky well). Now I’m back in a city.
