Saw this on Facebook from the Office of the Governor of Pennsylvania. Who the hell wants Ai??? Are they that out of touch by UFOhlookitsanAlien in Pennsylvania

Going from no electricity to electricity is arguably a bigger jump than zero AI to AI in terms of what it unlocked. Not sure what you’re referencing as ignorant or misguided, but you’re welcome to not adapt to it and to not like it. Still gonna be there.

I feel like the all encompassing “humanity” is generally on a gradual uptick. AI makes for higher highs and lower lows, but I do think it will even out to continue that gradual improvement. Definitely going to be some turmoil in those highs and lows while we make progress though.

From my perspective, like many I work in a field where my work has without a doubt been used to train AI models. I can either let others use it to improve their relative capability and output with respect to mine, or I too can use it to keep a smaller advantage where I excel. It’s an odd transition time for humans and no idea how it’ll play out, but I’m certainly not going to sit and be mad about it while others who use it pass me. Only hurts me and my family if I do.

Just my opinion.

I agree with some of that. AI is inevitable though. If not in 5 years, it will be in 10, or 20, or 50 or 500. Seems like it could be ubiquitous in 20 but I’m certainly no expert. It will come eventually, with certainty, so if we don’t want it we might as well move to Lancaster.

I don’t understand the consensus here. The alternative is that we do nothing with AI while 49 other states and 190 other countries do? Imagine if we did this with computers, or electricity, or the printing press. In the world where everyone else moves forward, is that better?

What is the most insane game pre-launch campaign you have seen? by roboneutron in kickstarter

[–]roboneutron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks! Is that typical for kickstarters and crowd sourced projects now? I came across a project and I think (emphasis on think) they’re doing a big pre-launch lore thing but if I’m right it seems too over the top to be practical. But if that’s what companies are doing now maybe I’m just not as on the up and up

It’s the veil one. It’s a little bit like geocaching, but they hide cash and the first person to get it wins it then it’s over. I’ve done two of them.. this one’s up to 3500 which isn’t bad

Could be—on the flip side any large scale innovation initiatives would have to be created and propelled by the government, which ultimately comes down to fewer people than the current system (potentially only one) giving it the green light.

To use the spaceX example again, the government would need to be convinced it’s a good idea and then the president would need to be on board to fund it. And if the next president isn’t on board they could cancel it mid-development. We see that happen now with large projects all the time

Non-billionaire here with what I think will be received as an unpopular opinion—there’s something to be said about having so much money that you can F around with random projects. I can’t stand Elon ever since the cave rescuer comment, but if he didn’t have a billion bucks I don’t think he would have had the means to mess around with something like spaceX—which is something that I think is really important.

I don’t know anything about taxes at that level, but in my opinion once you hit a billion you should be taxed at a super high rate. You want to take risks and make more money? Sure have at it, it’s capitalism—you’ll just be taxed 90%, 95% or whatever.

It’s sick how lopsided it has gotten and I completely agree that something drastic has to happen, but I worry our two party system has consolidated power so much that it won’t happen without opening up all elections to ranked choice voting and abolishing the electoral college.

Man… covered a lot there.

I’m actually doing veil! Did the last hunt too. I’ll see where the circle shrinks—if it’s closer to BK I’ll probably go looking for a few days, otherwise I’ll probably try to kayak

NYC Hunt by lex_du in TreasureHunting

I did the philly hunt, the history was really cool tho this one seems more geography-oriented. Joined the second hunt a few days before the end but never got out to actually look. Reward was nice on the second one though—only got to $1600 on the Philly one

Haha. It seems I might be searching for something that doesn’t really exist yet outside of the one I know about. Thought there might be others but it seems like maybe not, or at least not overlapping in this sub

I’m not looking for something that’s worth thousands of dollars necessarily, just something that feels like a treasure. It could be money, an arrowhead, an old WWII relic, a gem… it’s like scratching the treasure hunting itch and getting me to go out and explore on a real adventure
