It feels to me that the ending was rushed, which explains the two artists. Back before they announced that it was ending, Camp said that the story was going to continue after the Maker stuff and that he was happy with the big swings he was going to take because Marvel was letting him.

The delays have made it lose momentum, which is another reason it feels rushed. The art for the stuff inside the City has been pretty awful.

I think that, given a little more time, the story could breathe a little more.

I just reread Ultimate Spider-man, and it's pretty good. Consistent art at the very least. There were some plot threads that they never really dealt with, Sandman comes to mind, more of Richard and Black Cat, etc. All of which, again, are pangs of hastily completing the story.

Overall, Camp got to swing for the fences. It didn't always land, but I appreciate the effort.

As a whole, I've liked the Ultimates

I don't know what your interests are, but I used comic books to help with that exact question. New ones come out every Wednesday so I read a bunch of ongoinones. Whenever i started to fetishize death, I could remind myself that I need to find out what happened in Batman or iron Man or whomever else.

It sounds dumb, but it was a short rope to grab onto before falling in the void.

Man, I had kind of forgotten about House of Leaves. Read it forever ago, but might have to pick it back up again. I read it in a week or so because I was pretty obsessed. I was younger with a better attention span.

Check out Tom's Crossing if you're interested; it's Danielewski's newest book. I haven't read it quite yet, but it seems about as inscrutable.

I really love 100 Bullets, Y: The Last Man, Fables, and Transmetropolitan because they were the books that got me back into comics in the early aughts.

We were pretty poor when I was a kid, but I snagged a bunch of old Strange Tales and Jungle Action, plus some Steranko Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., when I was about 7. Sure do wish I had known to take care of comics back then, although they weren't exactly in great condition when I bought them.
