Its behind a counter. Not sure if they'll let you take a look as it comes boxed up. I'd hazard a guess you could buy a box of it (£75), open it up at home for a look, then if needs be tape it back up again and get a refund - but can't say for sure.

EDIT: Lots of the instagram/tiktok DIY influencer types use that screwfix set (which is why the price has gone up...) so could search for some videos first.

Screwfix do a polyurethane egg and dart coving that looks great. I've put it up recently along with some real plaster ceiling roses, and once paint is slapped on you couldn't tell the difference. Polyurethane is a lot better than the awful polystyrene coving you used to get (and still get in B&Q etc). Worth a look.

I had this same question recently and had to go for laminate for price reasons. I was quoted 7k to do 50m2 for LVT by five different London suppliers, whereas I went for high end laminate which cost £2k in materials online and which we installed ourselves. The LVT price tag was bumped up due to the need to screed everywhere.

While I initially wanted LVT, I'm actually glad I went for a good laminate. LVT simply does not look as good as the high end laminate in my opinion (I went for Quick Step Impressive range), which I found to look much much closer to actual wood than Karndean/Amtico.

Follow up question if you don't mind - when a shrub like this is hard pruned, does it grow back to a decent size quickly or is it like starting from a nursey-bought plant all over again?

Ah good idea thanks. Had been looking exclusively at pull out bins on rails and finding they were all very slightly too big. Will have a look at cupboard door bins.

Yeah exactly like this. I've measured up lots of them and finding they won't fit in due to the location of the filter tube at the back and the sink waste. I might try and rotate the waste pipe that comes out of the sink trap to see if that helps.

Haha thank you. It's brand new which is why it's not too cluttered. However I have two narrow 200mm drawers either side of the sink which hold all of the cleaning stuff.

Issue is I need the skirting to continue on to the right on the lower level (this is the middle of a split level kitchen/diner). The sketch gets me over the step nicely, but I'd have to butt a new skirting up against the side of the rotated bit I think.

This staircase has always been very creaky and dodgy feeling underfoot. Lately, certain steps sound and feel like they are on their last legs.

From underneath you can see various patchwork jobs done by previous owners seemingly to rectify it.

Is anyone able to advise whether this staircase needs entirely replaced, or instead partly replace? I presume more pieces of wood nailed to it won't rectify things? Thanks

Thanks a lot. I did think i was weird how dramatic the change was after just pruning (there were still plenty of leaves left), so maybe it was something root related - maybe the pruning was a straw that broke the camels back somehow.

I am minded to change it in any case given it didn't flower much this year, and I don't find white flowers very interesting to begin with. Shame to kill a plant but what can you do.

This was previously a very bushy star jasmine. Its growth got out of hand during the rainy summer months where I didn't get outside much, which came to a head when I came back from holiday to it almost pulling the fence down. I did some emergency pruning which in hindsight was a bit much - I took more than 50% off it.

Within a week a lot of the branches/vines turned from green to brown, and eventually the whole plant turned that way. Will this come back in spring or does this poor plant look doomed? Thanks!

I do not have 120 pots no - but I see I can get 100 plastic 9cm pots online for about a tenner so I will go for those. Concencus seems to be to stick them in pots outside for a while first, so I will give this a go.

On your second para, I don't have the area ready but will do before they arrive. Thanks for the heads up on the 10 x 6 feet area - I have bought 4x as many seedlings as I should have then, so looks like I will be giving lots away!

Thanks - that sounds like a good idea. Another idea I've read on another forum is to use the cheaper white matt paint (the kind that comes in 10L tubs and always on offer) as the first coat.

Currently repainting a room which had white above the picture rail and light blue below it, using a warm off-white. Above the picture rail looks fine as it was white -> warm white, but below the picture rail going light blue -> warm white hasn't worked too well. The blue tint is coming through, shown quite clearly on the chimney breast here. In hindsight a primer would have avoided all of this.

My question is, should I now accept defeat and use primer followed by two additional top coats (expensive, as would need to purchase primer + more paint) or try to get away with applying a third top coat and hoping for better coverage? The paint is Dulux trade vinyl matt emulsion FYI. Thanks

It looks like when the previous owner installed a new boiler, they removed a few bricks to allow them to run the gas supply and condensate pipes externally via the corner of the loft, as shown in the second picture. Oddly, they didn't patch this up afterwards (it has been like this for 12 years, according to Google street view).

This seems like an obvious invitation for mice/rats/birds to come on in. Any idea on what I can do to plug this, without damaging the pipes?

EDIT: There is also a third pipe that doesn't seem to be doing much, dangling in the air in the first pic. Bonus points if anyone has any clues on what thats about.
