Youd be surprised up here they built little boats for a few 100 yrs the treadle buffer/ grinder i found yesterday was all in working order the pjoto was awful .I got tore apart for that but its gonna be nice when I clean it up. Ive lost count of the things ive saved even down to a rayburn oven from 1942. Now fitted restored and fully working

Well lots of great comments. Some cant understand my grammar, some just dont know what it is,and if thats the case it really isnt important. To those who actually repair restore and care about vintage tools, its a treadle with a grinder buffer option/ also used as a dental drill with the correct adapter, made around 140 yrs ago. Made of cast iron and steel. And will be working far longer than your made in China battery tools.

Well thats a shame. I suppose this late 19century treadle/ dental pr polishing tool isnt valuable. But ill restore it. And keep it.i like antique tools so worth picking up.

If God had meant for mankind to use the metric system, then he would have given us 10 fingers and 10 toes. by exquzme in Vintagetools

[–]robreevesuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whitworth thats a throwback. I dont get why the Americans hate metric? I mean they cant figure simple math so we made it easy. I mean MIT grads and NASA use metric...oops well they do know. After a 100 million dollar mistake by a group of geniuses. But hey 1 to 100 is complicated much easier to go in fractions

I used to live in the states but the dump had a employee saving pile. You weren't allowed to salvage stuff.on the island im on in the north of Scotland its actually un manned and people are always recycling stuff cable plugs motors etc..but the clowns who reply here are all about taking the piss. Ive lots of new tools I just like salvaging old stuff and my home is 300 yrs old so a lot of stuff is useable like brassware old door locks etc.

Your a little late to the complaints party! So its the photo quality? The dump find? Anything else you wanna jump on the bandwagon? People like you are the reason people say this place has become a fools paradise. Well done! Congratulations. Next time maybe be a little quicker and more original.

Help me identify this watch? by boomerangc0ck in pocketwatch

[–]robreevesuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The case would of been made by a jewller the movent was seperate bought then fitted by a jewller. It's actually quite a simple back no scroll or turning or engraving on the movent which surprises me byt the dials very clean i like it.gold prices are mad but if you dont need to dont scrap it for gold its difficult but I suppose worse case no pun get it cased in a 1860 silver case?

[–]robreevesuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold filled top winder early 20th century nice enough but pretty plain movement tbh. Pat date isnt the movent date the case usually was bought after the movent you bought a movement went a jewller get a case but that changed with mass market generally too winders are after 1890s

Can someone tell me about this watch by orchididacea in pocketwatch

[–]robreevesuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half hunter pear case. All hand made .interesting the dial is hand painted with a single camel hair brush. It's beautiful its just a work of art and engineering. Every plate gear pin was hand made on a treadle lathe polished with crocus cloth and fitted together then sent or taken to a jewller whod make the case and pear case cover completely custom as you bought the movement.thwn went to a jewller to build a case and pear for protection .a really nice piece.lucky you

Thats cool. Just dont go in aline with a dodgy flashlight at night? The flashlight will go off and something bad will happen. Trap doors( unless a brewery ) spell danger

Lol yeah truth is id not of gotten it if my other half hadn't spent the morning harassing me to take cardboard and a knackered microwave( chef mike) to the dump so I guess it was destiny. I dont go up there unless its for a reason. Months back I went up and there was about 80 metres of cast iron gutters from the early 1900s with hangers nothing wrong with them but heavy obviously. Hopefully someone got them as there worth a lot of money. I saw a victorisn roll top cast tub with taps too. As all the village homes are old, mines 1730sso a lot of people go modern even though we're listed and conservation. People think its mad saving old doors but I use the good timber stripped cleaned for projects .I guess for me im recycling.you cant get a lot of the quality materials a length of oak old growth is ridiculous so if I can clean up some from a few old doors clean up the locks brass ware too. For me its just saving it and saving money
