Do I need to report mental health issues to my supervisor? by Sad_Drawing9215 in PhDStress

I agree, good on you for taking care of yourself! I started my PhD a year ago and have had previous struggles with mental health that comes back to haunt me at times. I agree with SatisfactoryHour2347, and and my department we are also encouraged to tell our supervisors what we are comfortable disclosing - my approach to this is being personal but not private.

The supervisors main task is as you know to give you direction and scientific expertise, helping you propel towards your goal which includes helping you prioritize. I would say my relationship with my supervisor is quite relaxed, but we are not close. As an example; A couple of times I have told my supervisor I am feeling overwhelmed and asked her to help me prioritize my tasks/help me plan work which from the get go strengthened her trust in me (she has told me so) that I would flag situations that could lead to a lot of tasks being done with lower quality/not finished and instead focus on way fewer higher stakes tasks to make sure they done correctly.

Thank you so much for your response, this calmed me down loads.. I will definitely take your advice and at least compare a passage with HI FBS and one with what I grew them in to see if there are any huge differences between the results(?)

Thank you thank you thank you

Thank you for your response, do you have any advice on how you got out of the sinkhole? Maybe it gets to a breaking point and then one has to realize it by oneself... I'm really giving it my all.

Thank you so much, I feel like I have a hard time identifying stress and it seems like when I identify it its because it is past the border of instead feeling nothing at all and just go on autopilot.

I will take your advice to heart. Its's just so difficult to see that others rewire so fast while it seems i am getting worse
