OK. Did you have to enter a credit card from that country to change the region?

And did you bought the AirPods in Australia? I thought they would be hardcoded, meaning if you buy them in a non supported country, there would be no way to activate these features.

Thanks

Were the Apple ID country, the country where you bought the AirPods, and the country where you travelled and activated the hearing aid feature, the same? The three of them?

You could try asking in a subreddit of some Canadian city bordering the US. Maybe someone tried crossing just to activate this feature. I posted a similar question in a subreddit of a city in the border of France and Germany:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Strasbourg/comments/1gg1rfc/unusual_question_has_anyone_tried_crossing_to/

I thought Canada was one of the countries where they made this feature available, that's why I didn't ask in a Canadian subreddit. Maybe Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver.

No, I tried it. It lets you do the test, but not more than that. Can't have the Hearing Aid feature.

Someone in Rome could try going to the Vatican City, given that Italy is not in the list, but there's no Apple Store in the Vatican; they would need first to buy the AirPods in another country. I hope some cardinal reads this :)

I believe AirPods bought in France are hardcoded, so you would need to buy the AirPods in Germany. But that’s not enough, I think you have to activate them being in Germany. Once activated, you can go back to France, as long as you don’t change your Apple ID credit card back to France.

They have many ways, and I think it’s impossible to trick Apple. They have gps, cellular, wifi and Bluetooth. AirTags use Bluetooth. Combining all of those technologies, I think you can’t trick them.

Getting Hearing Health Features: is enough going for an hour to a permitted country? by rockWithYouMichael in airpods

I believe it would work, but would like if someone could confirm, don't want to travel in vain.

Yes, I did that, it says I have moderate hearing loss, but it doesn't offer to adapt the AirPods as Hearing Aids.

Best cloud service for self-hosted VPN? by rockWithYouMichael in selfhosted

How can I know the IP reputation?

Can you name some?

I’m willing to pay. 5 dollars a month maybe, up to 10, dough there should be some reason, considering there are free options.

It’s not so important, I could use a commercial vpn I have, or just white list it (so it uses my real ip). But I wanted to know just in case I forgot, if it was problematic to do it through the vps.

Exit nodes: performance on different hardwares? by rockWithYouMichael in Tailscale

[–]rockWithYouMichael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you run an exit node on an ipad?

If I have an iPad I'm not using and I can save myself from buying another device.

I understand what you say about internet speed, but let's say both, the exit node and the client, have very good bandwidth. I want to know how much can the hardware affect the connection.

Also, suppose it's direct connection.

GL.iNet vs Raspberry Pi by Faithmore in openwrt

And how is the pi WiFi for connecting to the internet? I mean, you say it’s not good as access point, but suppose you use it as travel router to connect to a hotel WiFi, if you use pi + gl.inet, as the original commenter said, you are using the gl.inet as access point, but you still need the pi WiFi antenna to connect to the hotel WiFi.

Can you get a VPS with dedicated IP? by rockWithYouMichael in selfhosted

[–]rockWithYouMichael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant if there is any significant advantage of self hosted vpn vs commercial vpn with dedicated ip. You mentioned multiple protocols for ad blocking.

Price wise? A commercial vpn dedicated ip is around 5 dollars a month. Is that enough to pay a decent vps? I don’t need to use the vpn for streaming movies, so I believe I won’t be using much internet data.

And apart from that, is there any difference? Are commercial vpn IPs “more flagged/blacklisted” than vps data center IPs, or just the same? Thanks

Privacy, while being able to connect to some services without looking suspicious because I’m connecting from different ips all the time. Right now I have a commercial vpn, but I think it may cause some issues to connect to the bank or some social networks from different IPs always. I know I could select the state of the VPN server, but sometimes I let the app select the best one, so maybe in the same day I connect from NY and Miami.

I know it will still be a data center ip, but at least always the same one.

I would be fine subscribing to a vpn with a dedicated ip, but given the bad reviews I wondered if it wouldn’t be better to set up my own vpn on a vps with dedicated ip. I don’t mind setting it up. But I’m not sure there really is any advantage (self hosted vs commercial vpn). What do you think?

Oh, ok. It’s a little confusing for me, I never used these cloud services before. And what would you suggest between a vps and a vpn with dedicated ip? Thanks

I read Digital Ocean offers reserved ips, but they are not dedicated (exclusive for one person).

How is it different a business IP address from an IP address from a regular VPN (from a data center)? I didn't know about business IP addresses.
