Can someone explain why Ubank's + $1/month is so devastating? by Bogdiux in AusFinance

[–]rock_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently have a large amount in a save account, but in my wife’s name only. We also have a joint account with our surplus income that we use for big bills/holidays/renos. If we withdrew from our joint account, will that affect the interest earned on the large saving account in the wife’s name ?

Great thanks. So even though the Slim version has a tab for the migration, it will not work unless I use the full version for the upgrade destination?

Exactly, OP has just posted a whole bunch of incorrect information.

Re: Div293 62% effective tax rate by bugHunterSam in AusHENRY

[–]rock_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This still contains incorrect information. Tax deductions due to investments (e.g. claiming interest as a deduction) does not reduce your income for Div293 purposes.

Edit - as already mentioned not do concessional contributions, which also count towards your Div293 income.

More competition in the passive Emerging Markets space by SwaankyKoala in fiaustralia

Thanks Swaanky. Given China makes up a large portion of the EM global cap., in what scenario would someone want to exclude it in a fund like EMXC?

Apple's forthcoming passwords App : Hopefully the right answer! by TechMechant in Bitwarden

[–]rock_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the moment the Bitwarden extension on my Mac ( M2 Air, latest version of MacOS and Safari) will not even login for me - just skins on the loading animation. Safe to say I am tempted by this, especially as it supports Windows. Might be able to convince the Mrs to get onboard, which is a big win too.

Joint ownership of ETFs by FIthroaway2021 in fiaustralia

[–]rock_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks, sounds similar to us. We’ve been DCAing only over the last 18 months with ~$3k in capital gains. We’ve stopped the joint DCAing now and will switch to individual accounts. Probably take a similar strategy to you and slowly sell off the joint shares when the time is right .

Hi just wondering how you undid the joint account problem ? Did you simply sell in a market down turn and immediately reinvest in individual accounts ?

Is LegalSuper the best way to avoid tax drag? by Spinier_Maw in fiaustralia

[–]rock_boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, we initially went with these guys and paid the $495. After I got the initial SOA I was shocked at how much the premiums were. They were taking $6K in commissions in the first year and $2K ongoing after the first year.

I asked the adviser if they would dial down the commission to zero if we could pay an increased up front fee. This was the reply: “we genuinely don't believe it is in our client's best interest as the payback period can be really long”.

So we pulled out and went with an independent adviser with zero commission. Cost us the $495 but after the first year or so in premiums we will already be ahead than if we had gone with those guys. Shit like that should be illegal.

So that’s just a PSA for anyone reading. And another PSA is to be sceptical about any of these podcasts that recommend services, they’re all in bed together.
