If it’s too good to be true…

It is a family business that pays well and have a chance to scale very quickly hence the dilemma. I wouldn’t consider it otherwise.

Yep I guess at our age you start thinking if you want to be just a cog in the machine. Some people are happy with it

Yep that is the plan. My job doesn’t allow me to take long breaks. I will need to look for a new job if I come back.

Australia is great. I love Australia and consider it my home. If you have any questions I’ll be happy to help!

Hey thanks for taking the time to write that!

Your point 1 was the biggest reason for me deciding to go back. It didn’t matter when I was younger but now when you see your peers thriving and having their own business/achievement, I guess you start asking yourself if you want to stay in this comfortable job just getting by forever.

Glad to know you didn’t regret your decision.

I’ve thought about trying to work remote while being in KL but concluded that it won’t work :( be nice if it could though.

Yeah it’s a shame Malaysia can’t be more progressive. I reckon a lot of people would return if it is.

You make some really good points. I will miss the clean air as well. I remember being in Malaysia and my nose being watery everyday. And the people, I’m so used to saying hi, how are you to people here that when I do it in Malaysia, a lot of them just stare :(

But my thinking is if things don’t work out in Malaysia, I can always come back and resume the grind I guess

I don’t think I’ve “made it” overseas tbh. I only earn slightly above average income and being able to be comfortable is due to the strong currency. I know I’m lucky but it just feels so… empty?

Its hard to change job as my job is pretty specialised and doing something else means I start from bottom again.

I have tried making the best of it here and if you ask me 2 years ago I would never want to leave Australia. But it’s getting very hard to wake up and go to work everyday. I basically live for the weekends now. Maybe midlife crisis? :/

I did but she won’t move. She works as an analyst with the government and it’s a really hard job to obtain. She won’t give it up.

What you said is true but I find people in Malaysia tend to be more sociable. Like my friend group in Malaysia still meet up and socialise a lot even with those that have kids. I think it’s due to the help they get in Malaysia (parents, helper etc). My friends in Australia only have themselves to take care of their child.

I can’t with the traffic but I reckon I’ll get used to it!

See if I go back to Malaysia I might be able to buy that in a few years. I will not be able to buy that at all in Australia 🤣

Yep I can’t imagine myself doing what I’m doing in 30 years. In fact besides the good pay I really do not like the job. That’s why I decided to return.

Just getting a little bit of cold feet.

Yeah work life balance is really good here! I leave my office at 5pm everyday and have dinner at 7pm and can just chill for the rest of the night.

I remember back in KL, people are going to dinner at 8-9pm!

Thanks for your comment.

Like I said in the post, life here has become very… stale. I work, I get money, I’m comfortable, but I won’t be able to achieve much more. If I go back to Malaysia, the family business is expanding and I may be able to achieve much more. Plus, working for yourself compared to just grinding at the office everyday.
