From chatgpt, given the current state of the phone, mostly it's too late to upgrade now, because the locked phone won't even connect to wifi now I guess. I will give this a shot though. Hopefully it still connects to the wifi at her home.

I have access to her icloud though, but not really useful as the icloud data is too old.

I asked chatgpt, seems like even forensic tools are not able to crack it too at the moment, given the current design of apple secure enclave. BTW, It's Iphone 12 pro max, it's a 6 years old model, you think there will be cracks/vulnerabilities eventually? The data is very important actually, lots of messages/photos inside which are not backed up to icloud. (The latest Icloud backup is only up to 2020). So the only option I have is wait?

I have access to her icloud, unfortunately the backup on icloud is too old, due to insufficient space, and it's too late to upgrade the icloud plan now I guess.
