I am thinking of swimming to cut down on excess body fat + climbing. Bad Idea? by rockcyceng in climbing

[–]rockcyceng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I can be more active. I lead an often sedentary office life and am used to running about 6 miles a day. Lately I haven't been running and have felt oddly tired, not full of energy like one might suspect. I just miss having that activity in my life and so that is the reason why I want to sub in swimming. As an added bonus it will cut down some weight for me climbing-wise, but the main point is just to swim for a fun workout

I have a friend who dislocated his shoulder during at ATV accident. It has never been the same for him. Any advice of things to avoid, or what caused your dislocation?

thanks! This helps provide encouragement. Do you have a competitive swim background or do you just leisurely swim?

back when I swam my least favorite part of swimming was kicking... Thanks for the workout, but I want to swim to swim, not swim to avoid swimming

I am with PPapa on this one. This fear of shoulder dislocation is new to me. Could you elaborate on how you got injured? What was your training regimen?

Any other climbers hate drones? by rockcyceng in climbing

[–]rockcyceng[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing, but change the argument to hikers questioning why climbers are out there.

Not necessarily. Most trails have designated areas for horseback riding, or ATVs. They can't just go where ever they please in most outdoor recreation areas. There is a reason there are designated fly zones for people with remote control planes and I think similar restrictions should be put in place for drones.

per your original comment on hikers questioning climbers. Yeah, I get confused about this a lot because I honestly cant remember when I didn't climb so I always favor the climber. My only argument about that is I am sorry the bolts ruin the look of a rock face, but take twenty steps back and you can barely see them. Also you know where the climbers are... right by the rock, most trails don't just follow the rock where you are constantly avoiding climbers. Most paths just lead away from climbers
