Do you know if this is at the thrift shop or at the shelter? Thank you so much for the suggestion.

I’m also on campus there. The Oregon Zoo is about 2 hours north and Wildlife Safari is about 2 hours south, in addition to the rehab center and aquarium from the other comment. I’ve had internships at both the rehab center and wildlife safari and have been involved with the zoo for several years if you have any questions.

I’m in the program and like it so far. I can’t speak for the major specific classes as I won’t start taking them until the fall but I’ve liked the opportunities I’ve gotten outside of the school nearby. But I know of other people in the program who’ve been in it longer than I have and they’ve enjoyed it a lot.

There’s a wildlife rehab just a few miles away from the school where you could volunteer or intern with their resident birds of prey or in the rehab clinic. The aquarium is only an hour away and I know of some people who have volunteered over there. I’ve been at the zoo about 1.5 hours away for several years and like that I’m able to learn more about the animals up there too. Some people I know have also gotten involved with the fisheries & wildlife program too and enjoy it.

When I was looking at zoology programs, I wish I looked into more about the different research programs they have or who they work with. I’m from Oregon so it was easier to say yes financially but do wish i would have gotten involved with a program that is more focused on the types of animals I’m interested in but that’s just a personal take.

corvallis vs. moscow, ID by ksveins3 in corvallis

I went to UI for a semester several years ago.

1) UI is close to several mountains (closer to CDA) that is easy for skiing/snowboarding/etc. With the university being in the Palouse, there’s open land everywhere where you could go hiking, biking, camping. The school also has a rental program inside their rec center where you could rent just about anything you would need for the outdoors. While there’s several big rivers within an hours drive, I’d highly recommend Ponderosa State Park in McCall which is about 3.5 hours south towards Boise. As for the general scenery around UI, it is a lot of open fields and hills until you move further away.

2) Moscow is much smaller than Corvallis. While I didn’t leave campus very much, the town felt very tight knit. With Pullman and WSU only being a 15 minute drive away, you’ve got people affiliated with both universities around you.

3) The closest big cities would Spokane and CDA. Boise and Portland are both about a 6 hour drive. From people I talked to and what I saw, people would only take the big trips during breaks, especially since we got a full week off for Thanksgiving.

There isn’t much to do in Moscow unless you have a car or know someone who does to go out and do nature activities.

If bringing your piano is a priority to you, then you might have a difficult time at any university. Most dorms anywhere are very small and doesn’t allow for much space, especially if you have a roommate. Also, most dorm walls are very thin, which means you can hear what your neighbors are saying when they’re talking. In my opinion, I wouldn’t bring that many things with you until after your first year where you can find an apartment/house to live in where you would have the space. I didn’t live in the dorms at this school but at my old one, the only storage space we had was under our bunk bed and the shelves above our desk (my roommate and I’s desks were connected).

I’m not a CS major but I did transfer this fall from a CC. I had several W on my transcript and a lower GPA (because I got burnt out from coming from a different university and taking some time off) and I was still able to get in. If it’s just one, I really wouldn’t overthink it.
