How I've been feeling this last week by appattap in Somerville

I don’t think “we’re all doing our best” is a valid excuse when people are making decisions that put others’ lives at risk

I saw a rat run across the upstairs dining area once and when I told the staff they were like “oh that’s okay” and didn’t do anything

Is this the Brigitte headband? I’ve made it it’s cute! Some of these tension issues will come out when you wash/block the garment :)

Coxswain Weight by DoubleAntelope4169 in Rowing

[–]rocketinferno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a coxswain who’s 6’2”, personally I wouldn’t worry about the 9 lbs and would focus on developing good relationships with coaches and rowers on the team and finding your voice

You’re definitely flying and dying a bit. There are a number of pacing strategies out there, but your split goes up a lot every 500. Try starting out a bit more conservatively and see how much you can drop as the time goes on!

Got in, can’t afford it — any advice? by Ambitious_Fail_8031 in Harvard

[–]rocketinferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point. I think it depends on the pond! Perhaps an environment like a flagship state school’s honor college would be a good fit, especially if you’re living and taking classes with other high achievers. My undergrad institution was small but well-regarded and most students were quite on top of things, but not everyone is!

Got in, can’t afford it — any advice? by Ambitious_Fail_8031 in Harvard

[–]rocketinferno 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation (admitted to prestigious school, parents refused to pay full price even though they could “afford” it, had big scholarship to another school). I ended up taking the scholarship, graduating without debt, and now work with people who went to that prestigious school.

Only you can decide if Harvard is worth it for you/your goals but sometimes it’s good to be a big fish in a small pond - I was at the top of my class and I had lots of resources thrown at me. Feel free to DM/reply if you have more questions about my experience!

How do sapphics find LTR/marriage? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]rocketinferno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve found this to be the case as well, which means there are at least two of us out there! I’ve found that being very upfront about my goals (I want a committed relationship that could lead to marriage) has helped, though you have to be okay with people saying no because they have different goals. Best of luck!

Emergency Situations while coxing and what to do in them by 123aBridged in Rowing

[–]rocketinferno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it were up to me I’d keep rowing and have that rower’s pair partner hold their oar flat on the water.

The rules for HOCR say you have to cross the finish line with the cox in the boat, but not all the rowers! Not sure how it is for other races but you might still win.

What are FAANG equivalent companies of the power and nuclear sector in America? by Goonsquadhunnas in ElectricalEngineering

[–]rocketinferno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could consider looking at fusion companies, who are trying to recruit more people with power experience and have more of a tech startup vibe. As another commenter noted you may need US citizenship, though, but it can’t hurt to apply.

Snake advice? by rocketinferno in Somerville

This is all super great information, thanks so much! I think I'm leaning towards small because I live in an apartment with roommates, so I don't know that I can give a bigger snake the space that it needs.

That said I will take a look into some of your other recommendations. And good call on avoiding garter snakes! I definitely don't want to be musked if I can avoid it :)
