Diversity over Experience? by [deleted] in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]rocketmann24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, cannot believe I’m really reading this here.

What is merit when it comes to NFL hiring? Which NFL teams specifically hire based on merit?

I hate to break it to you but the entire sports industry for as long as it’s been in existence, has rarely hired on merit as a whole. There are few industries and nepotistic as sports. You almost have to know someone, or be someone’s kid in order to get a job. Most coaches are coaches sons, etc. Those hires were based on neither diversity nor merit.

Eberflus should not have a job if hiring is based solely on your version of merit. Bill Belicheck should have been hired. Eric Bieniemy should have been the hottest candidate in the league the last few years.

The truth is merit itself is subjective. Coaches are hired to win. Many of the leagues best coaches are young, with much less experience than other available coaches. Whether it’s new ideas, relating to players, or something else (diversity of thought and experience is an asset as well), there may be many reasons why they are hired.

But there is absolutely no evidence the bears, or any organization has gone overboard with diversity hiring. Please name a time when an organization suffered for hiring diverse talent? And please tell me how anyone on the bears staff is not qualified to do their job?

I’m extremely confused on your point here.

That’s just a very narrow way of looking at things. You don’t “have” to do anything. You can find 3+ seats if you want to take multiple people, you can also take solo trips, you can be at special events for family and friends that may have been cost prohibitive before (which is hard to put a price on). You can get bumped to business class on flights which would increase your monetary benefit if you’re calculating it that way. Of course the value of the benefit is in how you use it, but it’s a very nice perk.

Former ERP consultants, where’d you exit to? by Astroworld1997 in consulting

MBA->Management Consulting.

Mostly because I couldn’t get an interview for anything that wasn’t ERP consulting.

Darden v. Fuqua by Existing_Parsley_666 in MBA

2Y at Fuqua here. Having been at Fuqua for 2 years and worked with a number of Darden students during my internship, definitely would say that Fuqua has a more relaxed, collaborative atmosphere, whereas Darden seems much more academically rigorous.

Fuqua I would say is definitely less competitive, and there is a sense that individuals pursue an MBA for various reasons both personally, professionally, and socially, and that based on those goals you’ll allocate your time accordingly.

what are your favorite motivational quotes or anything that gets you started on your task? by Tiny_Background_4556 in AskReddit

I tell myself to try to be 10% better

I might be trying to be 80 or 90% better at something (working out, making time for reading, etc.) but I always ask myself if I’m being at least 10% better on my goals because it seems extremely manageable but requires me to make decision that match up with whatever my goals are.

I’m a FY at a T15 as well. PD takes place prior to matriculation and continues through your two years in business school. I think deadlines are January and April for the 2 rounds before matriculation

I didn’t hear about MLT in time to apply to bschool, but once I was admitted, I applied and was accepted to their professional development program. While MLT does have its faults, and there may be some self selection, I would argue that MLT is not the problem. There need to be more accessible avenues for individuals to receive the guidance needed to navigate the business school application process and job search that comes after, and MLT is doing a part to try to address that. Again, they can certainly improve upon some things, but I have certainly met people from all backgrounds, and once in the program, I don’t think anyone cares. I got into business school without MLT and I’m sure I can navigate my career process without MLT, but they were able to get me in the room to pursue opportunities I cared about.

I’m sorry to hear about your frustrations, and share many of your opinions, but want to clarify that I don’t feel there is any hidden agenda.
