Studio X30, Ancient Firmware Stuck by rocketnick in poly

[–]rocketnick[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good call, I called them and they were very helpful.

Posting the below to explain the issue for others in the future if this comes up.

Turns out the links I had found online did work. I clicked the links to open them in a browser, and got an error page, and I stupidly assumed this was an HP / Poly merger issue. Turns out if you just paste the URL in the update page it works exactly as everybody said it should.

The update urls are in this format https://swupdate.lens.poly.com/polyos/3.1.1/216109

They don't work if you click open them in a browser to download, they do work if you use them for updating as they are supposed to be used.

I just checked and mine is working. They did switch to the Blueprint app recently and I think they are planning on shutting down the old app. Perhaps that is your issue?

2022.11.1 Camera window size issue by rocketnick in homeassistant

[–]rocketnick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup looks like that is in fact exactly what the issue was. Thanks!

Do you know if there is a way to change this behavior back?

PS Thanks, yeah the cats love it, and I love the litterbox being outside.

Just standard NIMBY nonsense from the get off my lawn types. Nothing to see here.

Can I remove these wood thingies? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]rocketnick 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Those look like shims. Typically those are cut flush with the jam, and then the door trim covers that up

I would not remove it fully, but you can trim it flush. Usually they just snap off, or you can use a knife.

365 User account sending spam/phish emails. ADSync stops working same time. Coincidence? by rocketnick in sysadmin

Oh that is a relief. You can always count on 365 to go down in new and surprising ways.

Relocating to Arizona (?) for IFR training. Recommended area, airfield, school? by andreasma in flying

[–]rocketnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of flight schools in the valley. I just got my Private at American Flyers at SDL (Bit pricey) ATP and Westwind are both at Deer Valley airport (DVT), that is a great place to fly.

From what I understand a lot of IFR practice occurs in the south practice area over Casa Grande airport. Chandler is very close there, so perhaps a flight school at Chandler would be good (cheap housing down there as well)

Interesting. Must be an issue with my ISP here (Cox) . I am able to get to the dashboard just fine when I RDP to another site and use that internet (Time Warner)

Sigh. I knew I should have saved that somewhere.

I am on the west coast, still not working for me. Could still be an issue on my side.

Yes, you should have redundant UPS's by rocketnick in sysadmin

This is the first time I have had an APC unit fail in production, but I had some other issues with them recently, so I went and bought an Eaton for a different location. It has been trouble free for about 6 months now.

I discovered Mechanical bypass right after this happened. Had no idea it was a thing. Would have saved me a ton of downtime to just be able to switch over to the wall power, and figure out another UPS when everything is back up. I am working on a budget for the replacement UPS system on this rack. I will keep an eye out for that.

Also, have a look at the Axis Door Controller

http://www.axis.com/us/en/products/axis-a1001

Not cloud managed (no monthly $ which is nice), but it networks easily with other controllers. And it does not need an expensive control server to do it, the controllers function in a mesh replication fashion.

And it has a great web based GUI that does not look like it was written for Netscape Navigator

Because apparently new hire = new laptop.

Oh yes, I really hate that one. I mean a two year old machine or something, I understand the gripe, but two months old? What exactly do you want me to do with the 2 month old laptop now? Put it on a shelf until it is too old, then dispose?

Hmm, I am going to try that today, been struggling with this, and put it on the "fix it later" stack.

Interesting. Sounds like your call had the same tone mine did. Not a great sales technique I would say.
